Although there are plenty of fan-favorite characters in the television landscape, often the most memorable parts of any TV series aren't the characters who are loved, but those who are loathed.

Some characters are great villains while others are protagonists that the broader audience seems to despise, and some Reddit users have their own ideas about who competes for the top spot. Whether they're from hits like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones or fun animated shows like Rugrats and Avatar the Last Airbender, these are some of the most hated characters according to Reddit fans.

Angelica - Rugrats

Some may be surprised to see a toddler make this list. However, Rugrats was a staple series in many households in the 90s and some have strong opinions about the children's show.

Reddit user juicertons said that "my mother banned me from watching Rugrats for a while", mentioning how their mother thought Angelica was a bad influence. Though an adventurous show about talking babies, this series had some lessons to teach. While Angelica is unlikable, her character was a way of representing children who are spoiled with little discipline.

Rory - Gilmore Girls

With such a strong fanbase behind this show, Gilmore Girls fans still argue about a lot that went on throughout its years. However, it may come as a shock to some die-hard devotees that many people disliked Rory Gilmore's character.

Redditor stenciledhearts said, "once Rory quits Yale and lives at her grandparent's house for a while and refuses to speak to the one person who was always in her corner (her mom), I lost all of my respect for her." Viewers disagree whether or not Rory's character arc was disappointing, but many also believe it was logical and realistic.

Lori - The Walking Dead

Lori wasn't a villain in The Walking Dead, though some audience members would argue that fact. Many disliked Lori for her betrayals and constant berating of Rick when he was trying to do the best he could to keep the group alive. When she died, there were some that weren't upset (or were even happy).

Reddit user SpicyDragoon93 said, "she also put the idea in Rick's head that he should take out Shane then was pissed when it happened." Lori confused many fans by demanding something be done about Shane's behavior, but then shunned Rick when he was forced to kill him.

Rachel - Friends

One of the shows people don't get bored with is Friends, but those repeat viewings also lead to a lot of controversy around the sitcom. While many people love the six friends the show revolves around, there are some that can't stand certain characters.

Some Redditors express their particular dislike for the character Rachel. Reddit user soulreaverdan said, "While she sometimes has good episodes, the universe seems catered to working on her behalf in ways that, individually, are believable, but the scale and number of things that just happen to her in her favor are insane." Some would disagree with this, but Rachel Green is undeniably a spoiled character.

Dinkleberg - The Fairly OddParents

Timmy's dad and his nemesis in The Fairly OddParents.

While Dinkleberg isn't necessarily a villain in this cartoon, Timmy's dad loathes the neighbor so much that the audience starts to root for his downfall. Not to mention the classic neighborly rivalry is a humorous addition that adults can appreciate while watching a children's show.

Reddit user thedarkestone1 said, "I love the episode where it's revealed he knows that Timmy's dad hates him, but also knows how much he enjoys hating him, so he makes that elaborate villain set-up and plot just to keep Timmy's dad happy." Dinkleberg is likable because he's genuinely kind, but he's also one of those characters that always seems to get lucky over and over again.

Gemma Teller - Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy was a high-intensity show that often left the audience floundering, unable to believe the next twist and turn that came their way. One of the characters fans tend to have a love-hate perspective on is the main character's mother, Gemma Teller.

Some Reddit users expressed their strong dislike for the character. Redditor terry_thegnome said, "I actually love Gemma because she's so heinous. She is so committed to the club that she'll do anything to keep it and she usually ends up making things worse." Gemma is one of those characters that can have good intentions, but usually chooses the worst course of action.

Debbie - Shameless

Shameless is known for going off the rails throughout the series, but some fans believe certain characters made such terrible decisions they're unlikable, even among this cast. While some fans understand that Debbie is a teenager and allowed to make mistakes, others simply can't stand her.

Devinisadummy said, "I don't wanna watch anymore with how annoying Debbie is." While there are some discrepancies about who is the worst character in this series, Debbie is definitely one in the bunch that a lot of viewers can't seem to get behind.

Azula - Avatar the Last Airbender

There may be some things that don't make sense about Avatar: the Last Airbender, but it's undeniable that Azula was a villain. Some can't stand her and others think she's a great character with a lot of depth, but she was certainly an antagonist.

A Reddit user said, "There's a difference between loving to hate a character and flat out hating them. Azula's a well-written villain so you hate her because you love her...if that makes any sense." So, while some viewers think she's a great character, that doesn't make her a good person.

Joffrey Baratheon - Game of Thrones

As one of the most-watched HBO series of all time, fans have a lot to say about Game of Thrones, and more to say about its villains. The series has several notable antagonists, but there are a few that everyone felt went above and beyond when causing pain and destruction.

Redditor Federico216 said, "Internet went nuts when Joffrey finally croaked. I don't think any fictional villain ever had such an impact. People really hated the bastard." From the moment Joffrey was introduced to the show, the audience was wondering when he would finally meet a fitting end.

Ramsay Bolton - Game of Thrones

A second baddie in Game of Thrones made this list because fans can't seem to get enough of them, and can't seem to stop loathing the truly heinous antagonists. Some even hate Ramsay Bolton (or Snow) more than they hated the vile Joffrey.

Reddit user NottheArkhamKnight said, "Game of Thrones has had very compelling, complex, and well written characters who we'd call villains. Ramsay isn't any of the above. There are absolutely no redeeming qualities about him, none." While many antagonists may have had motives that they reasoned with in this series, Ramsay simply enjoyed being despicable.
