As promised, a brand new Red Sparrow spot arrived during Sunday's Super Bowl LII showdown. Spearheaded by Jennifer Lawrence as Russian Spy, Dominika Egorova, the upcoming American thriller is directed by Francis Lawrence, marking the two's third collaboration since working on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay – Part 1 & 2 together. Based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Jason Matthews, screenwriter Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road, A Cure for Wellness) adapted its screenplay.
Red Sparrow follows the story of a young ballerina, Dominika, who is forced to enter the Russian intelligence and train under the sparrow program where participants are taught how to use their bodies as dangerous weapons. After finishing the course, the protagonist is tasked to target CIA agent Nate Nash (Joel Edgerton). Things got complicated when the two inadvertently fall for each other, prompting Dominika to seriously ponder the thought of double-crossing her own organization in the name of love.

Prior to the big game day, an announcement revealed that Red Sparrow would be one of the upcoming flicks which will be airing a TV spot/trailer during Super Bowl LII between the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots. Courtesy of 20th Century Fox, you can watch the new spot for the spy thriller above.
With less than a month before the film arrives in theaters, 20th Century Fox has been hard at work promoting the Lawrence-starrer. So far, we've seen two full trailers, a handful of spots and posters. But given the massive ground that the Superbowl usually covers when it comes to viewership, putting an ad during the game is perhaps one of the most practical ways to do one final huge marketing push for Red Sparrow. The movie is especially pivotal as many believe its Lawrence's comeback role after a slew of misses in the last couple of years with not really well-received projects such as Passengers and mother!. If anything, the new release doubled down on the spy aspect intertwined with elements of a forbidden love affair. We also get more context as to what drove Egorova to drive the Sparrow program despite obviously not wanting to.
Lawrence and Edgerton are backed up by an impressive roster of supporting actors such as Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons (Justice League), as well as Irons’ Oscar-nominated Assassin’s Creed costar Charlotte Rampling. Also co-starring in Red Sparrow are Joely Richardson (Emerald City), Matthias Schoenaerts (The Danish Girl), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful), Mary-Louise Parker (Mr. Mercedes), and Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones). With an impressive cast, a tried and tested premise, as well as a release date which pits it basically with no other blockbuster -- at least during its opening weekend, the spy thriller has a good chance of raking box office money.
