[UPDATE: A new Red Riding Hood poster has been released as well]

A fair-skinned maiden draped in a flowing scarlet cloak swoops under the gauze of moonlight, over snowy ground and barren wilderness in these new images from the Gothic fairy tale, Red Riding Hood. It's almost enough to wipe away the memory of the (admittedly, kind of laughably) souped-up official trailer for the latest supernatural romance from director Catherine Hardwicke.

Amanda Seyfried stars in Hardwicke's new film as Valerie, a beautiful young woman who resides in a Medieval village that has long been terrorized by a mysterious werewolf - a deadly creature that may be connected to Seyfried's red garment-wearing maiden.

Hardwicke is in familiar territory with Red Riding Hood, which also revolves around a love triangle between the under-20 Valerie; her husband-to-be, the wealthy Henry (Max Irons); and the pouty lipped brooding orphaned woodcutter Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), an outsider whom Valerie has fallen head over heels in love with. But the trio's romantic inklings are put on the back burner when the werewolf spills the blood of a villager and the cunning Father Solomon (Gary Oldman) is recruited to kill the monster, once and for all.

Red Riding Hood is unabashedly being promoted as a sultry but still PG-13 teen romance mixed with elements of the supernatural horror genre for the Twilight crowd - which means that if sexually-repressed adolescents staring longingly into one another's eyes and hammy acting isn't your thing, then this might be one retold fairy tale to pass on.

Both the footage and early imagery released from the film so far has been easy on the eyes, boasting some lovely natural landscapes and creative architectural designs that make the setting of Red Riding Hood appropriately look like something out of a fairy tale. Hardwicke was an accomplished production designer before she turned her eye to directing, and she, along with cinematographer Mandy Walker, looks to have crafted another visually rich motion picture.
