Chris Evans has been cast in Dwayne Johnson's new holiday action movie, Red One. Everyone's favorite WWE star turned action hero has been on a blockbuster tear as of late following a brief break due to the pandemic. In 2021, The Rock starred in Disney's action-adventure Jungle Cruise alongside Emily Blunt and followed that up with a star-studded heist movie for Netflix, Red Notice, which also stars Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. His DCEU superhero movie Black Adam is now in post-production, though Johnson has another intriguing project in the works.

In June of 2021, Johnson agreed to star in a mystery Christmas movie for Amazon Studios that would reunite him with Hobbs & Shaw screenwriter Chris Morgan and Jumanji director Jake Kasdan. While specific plot details for Red One are under wraps, it is being billed as a globe-trotting action-adventure comedy that imagines a "whole new universe to explore" within the genre. Needless to say, Red One is shaping to be an all-out holiday romp and, as with any movie with The Rock as its lead, it has a chance to make waves at the box office or put up record-breaking numbers for a streaming service.

Now, Red One has added another high-profile actor to its cast. According to Deadline, Chris Evans has been tapped to star opposite Dwayne Johnson in Amazon Studios' upcoming holiday event. As of now, Johnson and Evans are the only confirmed members of the film's cast, though more stars are likely to be added soon.

Steve Rogers in the Avengers compound in Avengers: Endgame

Evans is best known for his turn as Steve Rogers, a.k.a Captain America, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though Avengers: Endgame likely marked the end of his time in the ultra-successful film franchise. Post-MCU, Evans has been lining up an array of promising projects, such as the Buzz Lightyear origin story, in which he voices the titular astronaut, and the Russo Brothers' Netflix film The Gray Man, in which he plays the antagonist, CIA operative Lloyd Hansen. Now, Red One can be added to that list.

Johnson and Evans both cameoed in Free Guy this past summer, though Red One will be the first time they receive top billing together, an exciting prospect for fans eager to see the two movie stars team up. Although Evans' time in the MCU appears to be over, this holiday film will give him the chance to return to his comfort zone, as Red One's tone has been compared to the Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy. With its two stars now settled, look for Red One to continue adding cast members in the coming weeks.
