Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Gal Gadot are teaming up for Netflix's action-thriller Red Notice, and here's what we know so far. Most industry analysts would assert that the world is no living in the age of the movie star, when certain actors could draw audiences to their work based solely on their presence, regardless of what the plot was about. Still, there are a few big names likely to tip the scales of the box office in their favor, even if it's not quite as cut and dry as decades past.
Perhaps the biggest of those is Johnson, who first gained fame as a WWE icon before transitioning into a massively successful Hollywood career. Not all of Johnson's films hit big, but him starring definitely helps. Then there's Reynolds, who led both of the highly lucrative Deadpool movies, voiced Pokemon mascot Pikachu in the smash hit Detective Pikachu, and recently starred in the surprise hit Free Guy. Gal Gadot currently serves as a figurehead for the DCEU through her role as the titular hero in the Wonder Woman movies, which will also no doubt draw audiences to the film.
These three stars - who interestingly all have ties to the DC movie world - have never all worked together before, one of the reasons Red Notice is on the radar of many. Here's everything we know about one of Netflix's biggest acquisitions to date.
Red Notice Release Date
Unsurprisingly, considering its trinity of stars, Red Notice was originally planned to release in theaters. That is until Netflix purchased the film from Universal in summer 2019. Netflix currently has Red Notice slated to begin streaming on its service on November 12, 2021. With a budget reportedly around $200 million, Red Notice is Netflix's most expensive movie yet.
Red Notice Cast
As mentioned previously, Red Notice's cast is headlined by Dwayne Johnson as Interpol agent Rusty, Ryan Reynolds as a highly-skilled con artist, and Gal Gadot as the world's most proficient art thief. The character names for Reynolds and Gadot have yet to be confirmed. The Umbrella Academy's Ritu Arya and Silicon Valley's Chris Diamantopoulos have been cast in unknown roles. Notably, Red Notice's director is Rawson Marshall Thurber, who Johnson worked with on both Central Intelligence and Skyscraper.
Red Notice Story Details
The Rock's Interpol agent Rusty, acting on a "Red Notice" issued by the agency, sets out to hunt down and capture Gadot's notorious art thief. Reynolds' con artist is a rival criminal to Gadot's character, and gets mixed up in Rusty's pursuit of her. Beyond that, there's isn't much known about the intricacies of Red Notice's plot.
