Netflix's Red Notice movie appeared to take place all over the world, but how much of it was actually filmed in those locations? Many of the reviews for Red Notice lamented the movie's overabundance of everything due to the plethora of explosions, snappy one-liners, and the many, many locations seen throughout. Inspired by other heist movies like National Treasure and Raiders of the Lost Ark, Red Notice jumps between countries like Italy, Russia, England, Argentina, and Egypt, never staying in one spot for very long.

The most expensive Netflix movie to date, Red Notice follows two infamous art thieves competing to be the first to get their hands on a bejeweled egg, and the FBI agent determined to stop them. Every time Agent John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson) thinks he has outsmarted Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds), the thief's biggest rival—known only as the Bishop (Gal Gadot) in Red Notice—remains two steps ahead of them both. She seemingly anticipates every move the pair makes as they reluctantly work together to bring her down, meeting again and again around the world. Yet, how many of the beautiful locations they visited were real, and how many were manufactured by Hollywood magic?

The Red Notice movie plays out as a globetrotting adventure, but most of the movie was actually shot in Atlanta. Georgia is one of the most popular filming locations in the world for a variety of reasons, most notably the state's tax credits. Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta was even used to fabricate the Russian prison scenes, but the cast and crew did make a few visits outside the United States. They traveled to Rome for a few shots, as well as the Italian island of Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea, which serves as the backdrop for John and the Bishop's celebration near the ending of Red Notice, which potentially sets up a sequel. They also made a brief stop in France, since the final sequence was shot near the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Although traveling to those locations undoubtedly contributed to Red Notice's impressive budget, the crew also incorporated new filming technology into the production to further immerse the audience into the story. Attaching cameras to a race drone allowed the director to capture some of the atmospheric shots as well as several of the chase scenes. Several scenes used these drones on location in Italy while the actors were still back in Atlanta filming the close-ups. The opening sequence stitches together establishing shots of Rome from drones with close-up work done in the U.S. This method undoubtedly came in handy with travel safety concerns over the global pandemic as well.

Netflix's Red Notice was primarily filmed in Atlanta despite how many locations its characters supposedly visited around the world. Staying in one place was likely at least partially due to pandemic restrictions since production on the movie halted completely soon after they'd begun filming in March 2020. The crew had to wait half a year before they could travel anywhere, which could have affected how many of those locations they actually ended up using.
