Red Notice producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia gave an exciting update about the status of the film's two upcoming sequels. Red Notice premiered on Netflix on November 4, 2022, and is an action comedy film starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Ritu Arya. The film follows FBI Agent John Hartley (Johnson), who reluctantly teams up with a notorious art thief, Nolan Booth (Reynolds), to stop an even more notorious art thief, Sarah Black/The Bishop (Gadot). All three individuals, though, have ulterior motives, and nothing is quite as it seems to be.

Red Notice received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics, but that didn't stop it from drawing in an enormous audience. The film set an opening day record on Netflix, gaining more viewership than a film ever had on its premiere date. It continued to nab other records, ultimately rising to become the most-watched film on Netflix within 28 days of its release. Before Red Notice had even premiered, there were already talks about potential sequels. Following Red Notice's high viewership, two sequels were officially greenlit and will be filmed back-to-back. Now, the Red Notice producers are giving an update on these sequels.

In an interview with Collider, Red Notice producers Flynn and Garcia give a positive update on the film's sequels. While it doesn't seem like production is on the verge of kicking off, there is still plenty going on behind the scenes. Check out their statements below:

Flynn: Well, we have a ‘Red Notice 2’ script and almost [Red Notice] 3. The plan is hopefully if Hiram and I have of our way that we would make those movies back to back. But it’s going to be all about the scripts and how we feel and how Dwayne, Gal, and Ryan feel about them. But that franchise is a blast and obviously Netflix really wants it, and Rawson [Marshall Thurber, director, and screenwriter] is committed.

Garcia: Yeah, Rawson (Marshall Thurber) is working away and we were just talking to him about it the other day. He's deep in it and that's his baby. So, he's grinded away. We're excited to be able to get into it and see a new draft that he's about to deliver us to us very soon."

What To Expect From Red Notice 2 & 3

Red Notice's producers seem very optimistic about the sequels, and they confirmed that development is well underway. With the scripts getting close to being finished, more details about the content of the sequel might also arise soon. So far, what is known is that the main trio - Reynolds, Johnson, and Gadot - are expected to return for both sequels. The trio will be working together to pull off further heists, which may be complicated by the fact that they are all fugitives with red notices over their heads. Red Notice 2 will likely take off where the first film ended, which saw the trio eyeing the Louvre Museum in Paris. What they are after - and whether they can trust each other or not - remains to be seen. While Red Notice 3 will also likely follow the lead trio through further adventures, the plot likely won't be known until Red Notice 2 determines its direction.

Next up for Red Notice seems to be a production timeline. Of course, Flynn and Garcia did caution that the timeline depends on how the whole cast and crew feel about the script. The scripts could require extra workshopping, and the back-to-back filming may or may not still happen. However, with confirmation that everyone involved is on board and dedicated to making the sequels a reality, development could move rapidly once the scripts are done. If progress on Red Notice's sequels continues to go smoothly, viewers may even be able to expect Red Notice 2 as early as the 2023 holiday season.
