Warning! Spoilers ahead for DC vs Vampires #6

In the latest issue of DC vs VampiresRed Hood reveals that he's always been a better fighter than Nightwing (he's just kept it a secret). The second vigilante to have taken the Robin name as Batman's sidekick, Jason Todd has always had a sort of inferiority complex about Dick Grayson's Nightwing, the Dark Knight's first Boy Wonder. However, this new issue gives Red Hood the perfect excuse to take on Nightwing without restraint, claiming that he's always been the better brawler all these years.

In previous issues of DC vs Vampires from James Tynion IV, Matthew Rosenberg, and Otto Schmidt, an army of vampires have risen against humanity following the death of Mary, Queen of Blood. Led by a mysterious Vampire King, the vampires began their revolution by biting and turning several supervillains into vampires. They then turned their sights to the superheroes who would pose the biggest threat such as Hal Jordan's Green Lantern and his light-based powers. Having been converted to the vampire's cause, Jordan was able to convert Wonder Woman while having no choice but to kill Barry Allen, whose high metabolism and speed as the Flash would have made him the world's deadliest vampire, drinking the world's blood dry in a matter of minutes while the rest of vampirekind starved. However, Green Arrow and Batman have become some of the last heroes standing along with their families of vigilantes.

This brings things to the new DC vs Vampires #6 where Green Arrow and the Bat-Family are confronted by Green Lantern and Wonder Woman in a safehouse that Batman has rigged with traps and countermeasures. While it seemed as though the heroes were gaining the upper hand, a massive betrayal from Nightwing results in Batman and Tim Drake's Robin being murdered with Damian Wayne near death. Not only did Dick Grayson reveal himself to be a vampire, but he also confirms that he's the Vampire King, secretly leading his new army from the shadows. As such, Red Hood has no choice but to fight Nightwing. While Dick believes Jason has no hope as he's far stronger as a vampire and has always beat Jason before, Red Hood reveals that he's always held back every time they've fought in the past.

As Jason notes in this new issue, everyone always said that Dick Grayson was the best Robin, creating a shadow that Jason constantly had to endure growing up. While Red Hood seemingly kept his feelings and resentment bottled up, Nightwing becoming a villainous vampire lord in this alternate DC Universe serves as a green light for Jason to let loose and stop holding back, proving that he's the better fighter. It certainly makes sense given his history as an assassin and willingness to be more brutal and even kill when necessary. While Nightwing has certainly become more lethal as well due to his new status as a vampire, Jason still proves himself to be superior when he pins Nightwing, preparing to deliver the final blow and end his former brother.

Unfortunately, Jason was attacked from behind and bitten by Wonder Woman at the issue's end. However, Red Hood has zero desire to become Nightwing's lieutenant as a vampire, instructing Green Arrow to shoot and kill him before he turns. Even so, his final words to Nightwing were that he would've beaten him had it been a fair fight without Wonder Woman's interference. While the circumstances are immensely dark and tragic, Red Hood's final act in this alternate timeline was to prove that he's Nightwing's better, a fact which might even be true in the primary DC Universe as well.
