Warning! Big spoilers ahead for Red Hood and the Outlaws #47
Guess who came back to life? That could actually be a difficult question when asked within the context of comics, especially superhero comics. The afterlife is essentially a revolving door for both Marvel and DC Comics, with characters frequently dying tragically and epically coming back a few years, or even mere issues, later. However, as it pertains to Scott Lobdell's long running Red Hood and the Outlaws series, a major character just returned from the grave in the latest issue, and it's pretty cool. Read on to learn who came back to the land of the living.
Jason Todd, The Red Hood, is no stranger to resurrection as he himself is largely defined by his death at the hands of the Joker back when he was a Robin to Batman. When he came back to life courtesy of a Lazarus Pit, he came back darker, resenting Batman for not seeking vengeance against the Joker on his behalf. As a result, Jason became the Red Hood, having no compunction about using lethal force in the name of justice, becoming the black sheep of the Bat-Family. However, that doesn't mean Jason's been a loner all this time. Ever since the 2011 New 52 reboot of the DC Universe, Jason has had his Outlaws. The first team consisted of his best friend Arsenal, the former sidekick to Green Arrow, and Starfire, the alien princess of Tamaran whom he was romantically involved with for a time. Together, they went to seek justice by any means necessary, looking to have a good time while delivering some much needed justice.
Over time, the Outlaws disbanded, and Jason made new friends and Outlaws, Bizarro and Artemis. However, Arsenal still had his back when needed, especially after Jason tried to kill the Penguin which forced Batman to come after him. However, Arsenal did leave once Jason was safe and on the mend, deciding to go into rehab and a therapy center for troubled superheroes that Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman had created. Sadly, fans who read the Heroes in Crisis story know that Arsenal lost his life, having been accidentally killed by an out of control and disturbed Wally West.
However, in the latest issue of Red Hood and the Outlaws, The Outlaws are trying to stop the Untitled from using the Chamber of All to bring Trigon to Earth. The Chamber of All is a magical realm, containing multiple doors that open to any place in time and space. While Jason and the Outlaws are making their last stand against the Untitled, some familiar red arrows land in the backs of several of the demons.
Amazingly, the original Outlaws from the past have come to the present, thanks to the Chamber of All. This means that Arsenal is alive again...for a time. When the dust settles, will Jason tell the past version of Roy Harper about his eventual demise? Perhaps this could motivate Arsenal to stay in the present, putting him back in action for fans. It could very well go the other way where he'll end up going back to his own time, but at least for now Arsenal is alive and ready to fight with double the usual amount of Outlaws at least until the 50th and final issue.
