Warning! Spoilers for Task Force Z below.

Jason Todd is about to lead a team of some of DC Comics' most menacing undead villains. On Tuesday, the publisher announced the new ongoing series "Task Force Z," which will star Red Hood and a group of resurrected bad guys. Todd, who knows a thing or two about coming back from the dead, will headline a team including resurrected versions of Bane and Arkham Knight.

A-Day was one of the deadliest attacks in Gotham City history, as many villains lost their lives in an explosion at Arkham Asylum. The Joker has been blamed for the blast, but he's claimed innocence. The casualties included Bane, Film Freak, Bolt, Shrike, Jeremiah Arkham, and more inmates. Task Force Z was previously hinted at in the Future State: Suicide Squad, where Amanda Waller had a backup team if the main squad failed, featuring resurrected members of the Crime Syndicate. In the main continuity, it seems like Jason Todd will be the leader of the first version of the undead Suicide Squad-esque team.

Task Force Z is a new series by Matthew Rosenberg, Eddy Barrows, Eber Ferreira, and Adriano Lucas, that will follow a group of DC villains (and Jason Todd) as they get a new lease on life in the DC Universe. Red Hood will lead the dangerous villains as he tries to uncover why they've been brought back to life. The team will consist of Bane, Man-Bat, Arkham Knight, Sundowner, and Mr. Bloom. Check out the main cover for the series by Barrows, Ferreira, and Lucas.

Death follows Red Hood wherever he goes, but considering he was famously murdered and brought back to life in the Lazarus Pit; he's probably the best person to lead a team of resurrected people - even if they are villains. Making matters even more mysterious, Task Force Z will have a mysterious benefactor, leading to the question, who is paying to assemble the team, and are they responsible for bringing some of DC's most vile villains back to life?

The series will feature multiple variants, including a 1:25 ratio variant from Dan Mora, a team variant by Rodolfo Migliari, a 1:50 variant from Kyle Hotz and Alejandro Sanchez, and a 1:100 variant black and white variant from Hotz. DC Comics also announced a new DC vs. Vampires series, which will launch on the same day, from James Tynion IV, Rosenberg, and Otto Schmidt. You can find the new covers here. Both series look to be terrifying new takes in the Batman and DC Universe. Red Hood is definitely in for some trouble, whether he wants it or not. Task Force Z is scheduled for an October 26 release.
