Warning! Spoilers for Task Force Z #1 ahead!

The new zombified Task Force Z led by the Red Hood has set up the ideal environment for Jason Todd to get revenge on Bane for his slaying of Alfred Pennyworth, the Bat-Family's heart and soul, during the City of Bane event. Pennyworth's death shocked the Bat-Family, and many of them are still grappling with the loss of their collective father figure. Task Force Z #1 sees Bane repeatedly humiliated by the Red Hood, and forced to fight for good, in the perfect Alfred-worthy revenge.

Back in 2019 the city of Gotham was being controlled by Bane, and he had banned any of the Bat-Family from entering the city, having kidnapped Alfred and threatening his life if any of them tried. When Damian, the current Robin, snuck into Gotham and got caught, Bane shockingly murdered Alfred in cold blood right in front of him. While Bane eventually died himself after being killed during the events of A-Day, Task Force Z sees him returning "to life" as a semi-sentient zombie servant to Jason Todd, addicted to the Lazarus Resin that gives him some semblance of life.

Task Force Z #1, written by Matthew Rosenberg with art by Eddy Barrows and Eber Ferreira, begins with the newly formed team, consisting of Red Hood as leader with Bane, Man Bat, Mr. Bloom, and the Arkham Knight rounding out the group. The team is on a mission to take down the Gotham villain Crazy Quilt. As Bane prepares to break Quilt's back, Todd is able to control him by saying, "Put him down and get your treat, big guy." Jason is literally treating Bane like a dog, forcing him to fight against evil, all so that he can continue to receive "Lazarus edibles," made out of the same chemical that famously brought the Red Hood back to life.

This continued humiliation of Bane is truly a perfect revenge for his slaying of Alfred, because it is a revenge that Alfred would surely approve of. Alfred would never want Bane killed for what he did, and he would also not want to see one of his wards, Jason Todd, killing someone, even a villain. By humiliating Bane, but bringing the massive villain to heel (literally), Jason is honoring Alfred's sacred values while also getting vengeance for his death. This humiliation gets all the more brutal when one realizes that Bane worked very hard to kick his addiction to Venom, and he is now reliant on an entirely different drug so that he can stay alive.

Bane is a proud, incredibly strong villain, so it truly is a slap in the face to have a former Robin be in complete control of his decisions, and his very life. Alfred would rarely approve of violent vengeance, so the revenge enacted in Task Force Z #1 by Todd might be the only one he would actually enjoy seeing. There will be plenty more opportunities during Task Force Z's missions for the Red Hood to get retribution for Alfred's slaying, with Bane as his Lazarus-addicted sidekick, but keeping him alive and humiliating his legacy might just be the most poignant way for Jason to get payback for Alfred's death.
