Update (11/4/2021 2:30 PM CDT): On Twitter, Chris Klippel has clarified his statements from the September Rockstar Mag video, reiterating that he "heard about a Remaster/Remake project on [Red Dead Redemption]" but that the rest of his comments were "just an interpretation" of his opinion. The original story continues below.

A notable Rockstar Games leaker alleged the studio plans to release a remaster for Red Dead Redemption, which won't be too dissimilar from the GTA Trilogy. Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive unveiled the GTA Trilogy's definitive edition last month, then showcased gameplay footage a couple of weeks thereafter. One quick look at the footage indicates that this is no simple boost; the graphics were completely overhauled, giving way to a visual design that immediately divided the internet.

While 2010's Red Dead Redemption isn't nearly as old as the most recent GTA Trilogy entry - San Andreas (2004) - it, too, would need a significant graphical and performance boost to meet modern standards. And since it left much to be desired at the time, the gameplay of the John Marston-starring adventure would require more than a fair few enhancements, as well. What has aged splendidly, however, is Red Dead's narrative and open-world elements, which laid the foundation for numerous sandbox titles that followed in its wake. As such, now seems as good a time as any for the decade-old western to return with a fresh coat of paint.

Chris of French YouTube channel Rockstar Mag recently claimed Rockstar Games is developing a Red Dead Redemption remaster. The leaker shared as much in a Q&A session with viewers, relayed by DSOGaming, wherein he alleged the re-release would result in a final product similar to that of GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition. This implies the remaster will offer more than a boost in resolution. According to DSOGaming, Chris also noted his belief that the supposed Red Dead project won't hit the market anytime in the near future.

Because all of the above remains uncorroborated, it's worth taking this information with a grain of salt - even though Rockstar Mag has proven itself reliable in the past. But Chris isn't alone in his belief that Rockstar plans to produce a Red Dead Redemption remaster. In August, Kotaku reported on the studio's alleged intention of pursuing Red Dead's re-release only if GTA Trilogy succeeds. This latest leak makes it sound as though the studio may have already decided to move forward with the project, though.

Launch in May 2010, Red Dead Redemption quickly earned its title as an instant classic. The western franchise sat on the sidelines for a long time, then finally resurfaced with 2018's Red Dead 2. Barring ongoing support of Red Dead Online, there exists nothing official to suggest that bigger plans are in place to further expand upon the property.
