Acclaimed Red Dead Redemption actor Rob Wiethoff has expressed interest in reprising his role of John Marston for a hypothetical Red Dead Redemption 3. Although Rockstar hasn't confirmed a third Red Dead Redemption game, the meteoric success Red Dead Redemption 2 had both critically and financially seems to all but guarantee another game in the franchise will happen at some point, but the story is a mystery.

The first two Red Dead Redemption games largely wrap up John Marston's story, but there are smaller stories that could be told. There's a period where John left the gang for a year prior to the events of the second game and there's also a period of time prior to the epilogue of the second game that could also tell a story. Although the highly expected Red Dead Redemption 3 is likely years away, these smaller stories could serve as DLCs to the second game that expand on John Marston's character.

John Marston actor Rob Wiethoff noted in a new interview with Dan Allen Gaming that he has no idea if Red Dead Redemption 3 is in the works, but he'd happily return for it if Rockstar asked for him to come back. The actor also noted that given the fact that Red Dead Redemption developer Rockstar Games takes so long to make games, he'd likely need to move his whole family so they don't have to be separated for years. "If they ask me, of course I will. If they don't, I'm sure it will be a really, really cool, great game, just like the other two," said Wiethoff. "If it were only up to me, in a second."

Wiethoff went on to explain that he'd also do any other game Rockstar is making if the studio asked him. Rockstar is reportedly working on GTA 6, so perhaps there's room for a cameo. "If Rockstar were to call me and say 'We have a role for you that is not [Red Dead Redemption], you're not going to be John Marston.' Big or small, totally different story, I would do it. I would love to do it, I love the work, I love the people." Wiethoff's incredibly distinct voice may make it hard for Rockstar to work him into a different role, but there's always a chance they bring him into voice a pedestrian in the highly-anticipated GTA 6. Rockstar hasn't confirmed its next game, but many are hoping for a return to its open-world crime epic or yet another entry in the western franchise.

Given the success of Red Dead Redemption 2, it seems highly likely fans will see Red Dead Redemption 3 at least at some point. Whether that's ten years from now or it's actively in development is unclear. Fans have also heavily speculated whether or not the story will follow new characters or return to characters like John Marston or Sadie Adler. It will likely be a while, but hopefully, we hear Rob Wiethoff's voice in another Rockstar game eventually!
