From behind-the-scenes stories to little obscure details in the games, both are chock full of fun facts that just add to their aura and appeal, giving them character and making them even better conversation pieces than they already are.

500,000 Lines Of Dialogue

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a true feat in open-world gaming and storytelling, with such a huge catalog of high-quality characters and encounters for players to have, as well as a truly jaw-dropping amount of dialogue.

For the game, over 500,000 lines of dialogue were recorded. Skyrim only has about 60,000 lines of recorded dialogue for context on just how epic this is. The care and detail that went into this game is truly astounding.

Clint Eastwood's Near-Involvement

Rockstar is a successful company that has produced some of the best and most commercially successful games of the 21st century and so can play about with its money. They tried to do this by hiring a star in the main role of Red Dead Redemption.

Western legend Clint Eastwood was approached for the role before it got given to Rob Wiethoff, who truly made the role his own. Other stars who were approached about taking up the mantle in the first game include Robert Redford and Robert Duvall.

Red Dead Redemption Is A Spiritual Successor

Many more casual video game fans can be forgiven for thinking that Red Dead Redemption is its own game based solely on the existing stories of the Wild West. In reality, it is itself a spiritual successor.

Before Red Dead Redemption, there was Red Dead Revolver, the first entry in the Red Dead franchise, released in 2004 following the exploits of Red Harlow in the 1860s. It is not on the level of the Red Dead Redemption games, but it is well worth playing.

Capcom

Long before the release of Red Dead Redemption was released by Rockstar, Red Dead Revolver was in development by Capcom as an intended successor to the game Smoke.

It would be easy to assume that Rockstar owned the rights to the Red Dead franchise from day one, but it was owned by Capcom before the game was canceled, and Rockstar acquired the rights. The rest is history.

O'Creagh Run

During the production of Red Dead Redemption 2, the voice actor who played the iconic Uncle John O'Creagh, sadly passed away. Uncle was recast, being played mostly by James McBride in the game.

O'Creagh was honored in the game, though, not only by his singing staying in the game but by the location of O'Creagh's run, which is the setting for one of the best groups of Stranger missions with the Veteran, who forms an incredible duo with Arthur in a very short time.

Motion Captured Animals

Both Red Dead Redemption games have some truly trailblazing and awesome game mechanics, with some of the very best being the horses and how they move better and more naturally than most other games out there.

This was because the horses were motion captured with specially made suits in both games. In the second game, dogs were also mo-capped with these suits. It is a seriously impressive technology that added to the immersion of both games.

Rockstar Sued By The Real Pinkertons

Pinktertons in Red Dead Redemption 2

The Pinkerton Detective Agency in both Red Dead Redemption games plays antagonists to the player and their freedom as they try to stomp out outlaws from civilization. This portrayal did not leave the real agency best pleased, though.

The real-life Pinkerton National Detective Agency sued Rockstar over royalties and their portrayal of the group, with them being painted as villainous in the games. This was eventually dropped, but it is still fascinating, and not many would know about the existence of Pinkerton's; never mind this lawsuit.

'Six Years In The Making' Trophy

Red Dead Redemption games have so much to them, with so many hidden details, so much to explore, and a slew of trophies/achievements, including secret ones that not every player knows about, including 'Six Years In The Making.'

This comes in the Undead Nightmare DLC and requires the player to kill a Sasquatch, an iconic creature that not many will even know exists in the game. The title is a reference to GTA: San Andreas, where there have been longstanding rumors of a Sasquatch roaming around the map.

Disgusting Way To Get Rid Of Bodies In Red Dead Redemption 2

It seems impossible for the players to get up to illegal antics in Red Dead Redemption 2 without a bounty quickly following suit. However, there is a little-known surefire way of getting rid of murdered bodies.

It is, though, totally disgusting and requires the player to lift the body and dump it into a pen full of pigs who will proceed to eat the body up, eliminating traces of it for the law to latch onto and subsequently find the player. The noises they make are enough to make any player gag in disgust, it is a surprisingly scary aspect of a game like Red Dead Redemption 2.

Was Viewed As A Guaranteed Failure

Nowadays, Red Dead Redemption is viewed as one of the best and most successful gaming IPs ever, with both sweeping up awards, acclaim, and adoration. Initially, though, the first game was not viewed with a lot of hope by higher-ups.

With such a big budget and so much time being spent on a game like this, many believed that the game would not only be a commercial failure but would ultimately lose the company money. It needed to sell a lot to make a profit, and it did just that, selling over five million copies in its first three weeks alone.
