A PC mod for Red Dead Redemption 2 allows players to explore the vast open world alongside their favorite members of the Van Der Linde gang. One modder has constructed a companion system that lets players pick a beloved outlaw from camp to go on adventures with them outside of the confines of the story missions.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is Rockstar's massive open-world cowboy simulator, where players assume the role of Arthur Morgan, a soldier in a gang of outlaws headed by the charismatic Dutch Van Der Linde. Together they plot increasingly risky heists in desperate efforts to earn enough money to finally escape the Pinkerton Detective Agency that hunts them throughout the storyline of Red Dead Redemption 2. Between missions, Arthur has the opportunity to explore whichever campground the large, diverse gang is hiding out at, engaging the cast in unique dialogues, playing games with them, doing favors or just listening to their stories.

There are many mods for the title that are intentionally ridiculous, including one that makes Arthur Morgan's weapons preposterously large, but PCGamesN reported how one player, Bolmin, created a mod for the game that gives fans the freedom to spend even more time with their favorite characters. The mod is currently available on Nexus Mods. Bolmin has created an accessible way for players to assign a single member of Dutch's crew to accompany Arthur on whatever adventure he cares to go on when he is not robbing banks or managing the camp's resources. It is a deep modification that is still in progress, but the roster is already impressive, including Bill, John, Javier, Hosea, Kieran, Sean, Charles, Lenny, and even the villainous Micah. The modder has plans to add Sadie Adler to the roster in the future.

All of the available characters in this mod have their own specific story missions during which Arthur spends time with them, but the obvious draw of this mod is how it will grant players the opportunity to create more memories with these characters. Gameplay footage of this modification makes the interactions look smooth and seamless as Arthur fishes with Charles, camps with John, and loots enemies with Hosea. Of course there are no unique dialogue options for when the player selects a member of the posse to hang out. If the player so chooses, Arthur can lose dozens of hours hunting, fishing, doing chores, searching for toads, bathing, or even tracking down fossils strewn across one of gaming's largest open worlds. Console gamers are familiar with these activities as contemplative, solitary tasks, but with Bolmin's mod, they won't have to do it by their lonesome any longer.

Nexus Mods is where PC players can now experience these unique bonding moments with violent lawbreakers. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a superb choice for gamers looking to lose themselves in an immersive and beautiful world, and Bolmin's mod looks like a worthy addition for players wanting more quality time with the characters they became attached to in 2018. For those who love open worlds but prefer chaos and mayhem, Rockstar's release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is set to drop on November 11 for PS4/PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
