A Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer in the style of last year's film 1917 gives the cowboy shooter the Hollywood treatment. Players have been wreaking havoc in the multiplayer sandbox as they transform into bucks thanks to a recent update from Rockstar, which provides fans the opportunity to undertake a new sighting mission and more. The Western-themed game immerses players in a gritty world, where hunting is more than just a deadly sport - it’s a means of survival and profit.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s rugged story explores its characters' morality, depicting the life of a gang of outlaws who go through the same mental struggles as everyone else. Players make choices that determine the protagonist Arthur Morgan's honor. That sense of right and wrong continues throughout the entire plot, with several characters’ actions and evolving behavior being called into question throughout.

Tying the game's cinematic presentation to a recent gritty war film, YouTube channel Absolute Trailers created a 1917-style trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 that would fit right in playing in a movie theater. The trailer splices together some of the game’s dramatic cutscenes and gameplay while characters’ voices and adrenaline-inducing instrumentals augment the heart-pounding moments. It’s a perfect fit for the tone of the actual 1917 trailer, and oddly enough, it's not the only game to get the 1917 treatment.

Despite Red Dead Redemption 2 reaching its second year on the market, its riveting story and exploration of heady concepts keep its single-player content perpetually relevant. The game’s difficult choices are a prime example of how humans are a complicated species. Sometimes, what seems like an easy decision on the surface is just the tip of the iceberg, and the idea that even outlaws can live by some sort of moral code isn’t always an easy one to stomach. The story of Red Dead Redemption 2 deals with the kind of themes that one might expect to see in a big-budget movie like 1917, which is perhaps why this trailer looks like such a natural fit.

Red Dead Redemption 2 tells its story in a way that a film never could, by letting players not only live with its characters for dozens and dozens of hours, but also take direct responsibility for their actions by putting them in the characters' shoes. Despite that gulf between games and film, a trailer cut in the always effective style of 1917 is still a great way to showcase what makes Red Dead Redemption 2 feel so great to play, in much less time.
