There are many stranger missions scattered throughout Red Dead Redemption 2's massive map, but one players will regret missing is Charlotte Balfour's. After Chapter 6, when Arthur Morgan is diagnosed with tuberculosis, players should visit Willard's Rest in Roanoke Ridge, where they'll find a distressed Charlotte standing at her husband's grave. Failing to complete this mission, ends tragically for the NPC.

[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Red Dead Redemption 2] Charlotte and her husband had moved to New Hanover because they were tired of city life, but after his demise, Charlotte finds herself alone and needs to learn to fend for herself. Once Arthur Morgan knows he cannot be cured, his temperament changes, and he becomes warmer. Instead of leaving Charlotte as he may have done earlier in the game, Arthur teaches her how to hunt and survive in the wilderness.

Charlotte's Mission Shows Arthur Morgan's Character Development In RDR2

Arthur finds out he has tuberculosis

Arthur has done many terrible things, and knowing his unavoidable death has caused him to be more reflective about his life. His sickness causes him to look beyond himself and start to care about other people. The old Arthur was not very willing to help a stranger unless there were something he would gain; he was okay with giving some spare changes to beggars, but it was another thing to spend time teaching them how to hunt. The new Arthur, however, can empathize with others' sufferings and want to alleviate them, showcasing the great character arc that makes Arthur Morgan better than GTA's protagonists.

Charlotte Will Have A Tragic End If Players Fail To Help Her In RDR2

Unlike other stranger missions, players need to complete Charlotte's mission as either Arthur or John from beginning to end, and if they forget to return to Charlotte after completing her first mission her story will end tragically. In this scenario, players may visit her in the epilogue as John, but instead of finding her alive and well, they'll merely find her body in her house, as Arthur never taught her how to hunt, and she struggled to survive alone. On the other hand, if players help Charlotte until the end, she will be alive and remember Arthur Morgan fondly in the post-story.

Charlotte's mission may only be a side story, but it's one that if not completed properly, players will soon regret their decision as Red Dead Redemption 2 makes sure to give every character a lot of depth and life. In this case, that life would be a sad one without Arthur's help, something both he and the player should consider before leaving Charlotte alone.
