Arthur Morgan is undoubtedly one of the best video game protagonists ever, and one of the best aspects about playing through Red Dead Redemption 2 with the character is the dynamic he has with each other character in the game. From his complicated romance with Mary to his hatred of Micah, Arthur has numerous complex relationships, and there are some characters that make an incredible duo with him.

Whether it be through their badassery, the way they bond, or even just through their banter, there are numerous fantastic duos in the game that are made up of Arthur and one of the NPCs.

Sean MacGuire

A few members of the gang are on the lower echelon of closeness to Arthur but still form a decent duo with him at points in the game, such as Javier, Bill, Trewlany, and Karen. On this occasion, Sean takes the cake for his banter alone.

Sean does not spend too long in Red Dead Redemption 2's campaign before he meets his shocking demise. However, the time he does spend in the game is full of laughs. He is like a younger brother who idolizes Arthur, and it makes for some great rides and conversations between the two.

Rains Fall

Rains Fall in Red Dead Redemption 2

Rains Fall is not one of the members of the Van Der Linde guy but is still one of the game's wisest and most fascinating characters, referencing a different side of the wild west at this time and is someone to whom Arthur feels comfortable opening up.

That is a massive part of the reason the two make a great duo in their limited interactions. Not only does Arthur display his good heart with Rains Fall, but he opens up about his fears, his son, and his former family, and their conversations are always great to listen to.

The Strangers

Red Dead Redemption 2 the Veteran with Arthur Morgan

Red Dead Redemption has some incredible strangers and stranger missions between its two games, and some of these characters in the sequel make for a great team with Arthur.

Hamish, a.k.a the Veteran, and Arthur have some great moments in the wild together. Arthur helping Charlotte overcome the loss of her husband and learn to survive on her own is fantastic to be involved in. Even stopping the likes of Albert from being killed is great. These stranger missions truly explore the good side of Arthur - should the player choose to make Arthur a highly honorable man, that is.

Abigal Roberts/Jack Marston

Arthur does not go out on missions or rides with Abigail, and the extent of his time spent with Jack outside of camp is their fishing trip. Nevertheless, he has a touching bond with both of them.

Arthur really is like an uncle to Jack and is such a good friend of Abigail - even writing that he may have married her had John not been so interested. The conversations they have are great, and the way Arthur helps out the family makes for some of the most emotional elements of the game.

Hosea Matthews

Hosea's death is one of the saddest in Red Dead Redemption 2, not just for fans but for Arthur, who had grown up with him. It seems as though when Hosea died, Dutch's spiral into becoming overly unhinged sped up.

Hosea was with Arthur in his belief that Dutch was not quite Dutch after Blackwater, and that led to some great conversations. The two kicked ass together when need be, reminisced like a father and son, and were even entertaining during downtime like sitting around camp or being out hunting together.

Lenny Summers

Arthur and Lenny have perhaps the most iconic mission of any duo in Red Dead Redemption 2 when they go out to the saloon in the fan-favorite location of Valentine and get drunk together. It is wild, and it is terrific.

Their relationship is far more than that singular mission, though; the two were extremely close and, while Lenny was alive, were arguably each other's closest friends in the camp outside of the three spearheads of the gang. The two make for some great missions and action outside of camp and for some fun within it through conversations and games like poker and five-finger filet.

Dutch Van Der Linde

Dutch Van Der Linde is the antagonist of the first Red Dead Redemption and a painfully infuriating character in the second as he descends into madness. For a lot of the sequel game, though, he maintains a great relationship with Arthur.

At the start of the game, the two and Hosea are closer than anyone. As Dutch gets worse and worse, and Arthur realizes that an outlaw's place in the civilized world is disappearing, though, their relationship decays and disappears. Even when they are fighting, they are a terrific duo, but they obviously shine when they are on the same page, taking on civilization together.

John Marston

Why You Should Always Be Nice To People In RDR2

Fans will likely debate for years over who is the better character between the two main Red Dead Redemption protagonists. Still, there is no debate that the two make a great team, especially in the later parts of the game.

When Arthur gets ill, and the gang starts to deteriorate, all the issues that once existed between the two seem to disappear, and their friendship gets a chance to shine. Not only do they fight well together, but Arthur pretty much saves John and his family's lives, giving the two an emotional edge that most duos in the game cannot reach.

Charles Smith

Charles shooting his bow and arrow in Red Dead Redemption 2

Chares is arguably the best character in Red Dead Redemption 2 who did not appear in the first game and goes on more missions and rides with Arthur than nearly everybody else in the game.

The two have a relationship that just gets better and better as the game goes on. They are close and confide in one another, but Charles is also unafraid to call Arthur out. They are always willing to help one another and are unstoppable as a fighting team. Players everywhere were ecstatic when Charles survived the events of the game.

Sadie Adler

Sadie Adler' with Arthur in Red Dead Redemption 2

Sadie Adler may well be the biggest badass in all of Red Dead Redemption, and while it takes her a while to get settled into the gang, she has a standout dynamic with Arthur by the game's end.

They bond over their banter at Pearson's expense and end up amassing huge respect for one another. More so than anyone outside of Charles and, of course, the Marstons, Sadie unequivocally sides with Arthur over Dutch and Micah and is such a key player in both John and Arthur's story. Any of John, Charles, or Sadie can be argued as making the best duo with Arthur, but the way they kick ass together, save John, try and takedown Micah, and bond more and more as the game progresses puts Sadie ahead here.
