A talented Red Dead Online player has recreated the infamous Grand Moff Tarkin from Star Wars using the game's character creator. Rockstar Games’ open-world multiplayer sandbox has seen a steady supply of faithfully remade characters from other properties recently, including (but not limited to) a Red Dead version of Hitman's Agent 47.

Grand Moff Tarkin is one of the Star Wars saga’s first and most recognizable onscreen villains. The Death Star architect is so feared and respected in the fictional Empire that even iconic series villain Darth Vader heeded his orders. Tarkin died when the Death Star was destroyed during the climax of Star Wars: A New Hope, but Peter Cushing's digital likeness returned in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Tarkin has also made appearances in numerous Star Wars licensed games, including RTS Star Wars: Empire At War and the LEGO Star Wars series. Now, Grand Moff Tarkin has arrived to enforce the will of Emperor Palpatine in Red Dead Online's Wild West.

Reddit user Baron_Kelaguen recently shared comparison images of their Red Dead Online character creator rendition of Grand Moff Tarkin to r/gaming. The character is captured exceptionally well in Baron_Kelaguen’s character, and the player even thought to create two different outfits for their version of Tarkin: one wearing the grey uniform and tall black boots that the Grand Moff wore in Star Wars: A New Hope (seen below), and another featuring the slippers Cushing actually wore during scenes where Tarkin’s feet weren’t visible due to the boots being too uncomfortable.

Red Dead Redemption Online Tarkin 1

Aside from impressive cosplay character creations of classic silver screen villains like Grand Moff Tarkin and the Penguin of Batman fame, Red Dead Online is expectedly home to an assortment of player hijinks, similar to Rockstar’s better-supported Grand Theft Auto Online. Thanks to bugs, glitches, and player exploits, would-be cowboys have attempted crazy mid-air horse stunts, competed in boat races, and even modded their characters into all-powerful, Superman-like beings. The Red Dead Redemption series has sold over 60 million copies worldwide throughout 2021, with much of that success likely due to the open-world atmosphere and freedom offered in Red Dead Online.

This freedom could very well be in jeopardy now that Grand Moff Tarkin has arrived in Red Dead Online, as his first order of business will likely be to bring the untamed world of the Old West under the oppressive heel of the Galactic Empire. On the other hand, fans might finally get a chance to see what cowboy Stormtroopers would look like once Tarkin inevitably starts building an army.
