Following the recent Google Stadia shutdown, one dedicated Red Dead Online fan may lose $1,000,000 in virtual currency and more than 3,500 hours of progression. Last month Google announced that its cloud gaming service will be shutting down next year, which will wipe away players' digital gaming libraries and their progress within these titles. Google Stadia shutting down will have a particularly horrific impact on one Red Dead Online player, who seems unable to preserve their impressive progress in the multiplayer Wild West simulator. Rockstar Games has essentially abandoned Red Dead Online, and now the shutdown of Google Stadia is yet another crushing blow for the multiplayer gunslinger community. After the announcement of Google Stadia's shutdown a particularly big Red Dead Online fan named Colour revealed that they risked losing nearly 6,000 hours of playtime once the cloud gaming service became inaccessible. Initially Rockstar had no plans to let players transfer progression onto other systems, but after Colour's story made headlines the developer delivered a solution. Fans can now transfer Red Dead Online save files from Google Stadia to other platforms, but only players who logged in within 30 days of Stadia's shutdown announcement.Related: Google Stadia Shutting Down FAQ: All Your Questions AnswersAs revealed by Colour on Twitter (via TheGamer), the 30-day save transfer policy for Red Dead Online on Google Stadia is not a perfect solution. Another dedicated player apparently stands to lose more than 3,500 hours of in-game progression when Stadia shuts down, simply because they did not play within 30 days of Stadia's announcement. The Red Dead Online player has also accumulated a staggering $1,000,000 and 662 progression ranks, which will all be lost when Stadia closes next year. Colour and the rest of the community feel that the 30-day transfer policy is too strict, especially considering Red Dead Online's lack of recent updates to elicit a return to the virtual frontier.

Red Dead Online Google Stadia Transfers Are Needlessly Restrictive

Rockstar Games' strict 30-day Red Dead Online save transfer policy seems unnecessary, considering fans can transfer Cyberpunk 2077 saves from Google Stadia with much less trouble. CD Projekt Red is letting PC players preserve Cyberpunk 2077 saves on Google Stadia by moving them into the standard PC version using Google Takeout. Meanwhile, console users can save their progress using their GoG account and the REDlauncher. It has also been revealed that most Ubisoft games, like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, can be transferred off Google Stadia and onto other platforms using the Ubisoft Connect system.

While some players will have the opportunity to save their Red Dead Online progression from disappearing with Google Stadia, others are not so lucky. One truly dedicated digital gunslinger spent a breathtaking 3,500 hours in Rockstar's Wild West, saving up a $1 million cache that will soon be lost. The 30-day policy for Google Stadia transfers seems unnecessary and blatantly unfair, and Red Dead Online players are now seeking justice.
