The next Red Dead Online update will provide players with a free horse and treasure map - as long as they meet the requirements to acquire them, which are actually extremely easy to pull off. Red Dead Online is the online multiplayer element of Red Dead Redemption 2, and while the latter remains one of the most popular single-player titles on the current generation of consoles/PC, Red Dead Online has continued to struggle to meet the lofty expectations set by its most obvious point of comparison in Grand Theft Auto Online.

That isn't for lack of trying, however, as developer Rockstar has poured considerable time and effort into providing updates for Red Dead Online, though a dearth in meaningful updates over this past summer left some RDO fans dressing as clowns in-game to protest what they perceived to be as a neglect of the game. Since then, at least one major update has been well-received in the Naturalist role, which continues to get attention months after its implementation, but the game still doesn't enjoy the same kind of engagement - whether in its player base or in content creation - that Grand Theft Auto Online has boasted over a longer period of time. With Red Dead Online, many updates are safe bets that reward already-invested players rather than attempting to rope in newer players.

That trend continued with the most recent update announcement, as Red Dead Online will provide players with a free horse and treasure map, mostly for completing elements of the game they were likely going to anyways. In an announcement from Rockstar Games, the developer revealed that this week will see players receive a valuable treasure map for free, just as long as they complete either a Trader or Moonshine sale before November 9. Red Dead Online players who reach Rank 5 or higher in any Role this week will also receive a free horse for their trouble, though the horse will be capped at Rank 40 or lower.

This week will also see the usual assortment of catalogue additions and sales, with a sale on Stable Stalls (30% off) that will perhaps benefit those who suddenly find themselves with a new horse simply for playing. In addition, players who connect their account to Prime Gaming prior to the November 16 cutoff will receive a reward for a free single bandolier, with offers of sales on a double bandolier, deluxe campfire, and imroved bow. Red Dead Online players who connect to Prime also get a free Wilderness Camp, 6000 Naturalist XP, 5 free legendary animal pheromones, and a free Katata Coat.

While the newest Red Dead Online update isn't as substantial or intriguing as some other recent ones, it's free loot simply for playing the game, which is hard to argue with. In advance of next-gen consoles releasing next week and Red Dead Online's future beyond that, some nice, easy bonuses will probably be appreciated by the game's playerbase.
