Rockstar games is promising fixes for Red Dead Online after a recent update left the game riddled with a disastrous amount of bugs. Red Dead Online is the online component of Red Dead Redemption 2, which was launched in 2018 to overwhelming praise and is currently one of the best-selling video games of all time.

Bugs aside, players agree that Red Dead Redemption 2 is nothing short of monumental. Fans are still raving about the game almost two years after its release. Unfortunately, this praise has not extended to Red Dead Online. The game has been plagued with complaints since its release in May 2019. At that time, players took issue with the challenges and rewards offered in the game, protesting that rewards weren't valuable enough to offset the time and resources required to obtain them. To its credit, Rockstar has been steadily improving the game since launch, rebalancing the economy and offering new player jobs and legendary creatures for players to interact with.

Unfortunately, Red Dead Online still isn't free of trouble. A recent update, which was actually supposed to fix the game by addressing bugs and increasing spawn rates for some legendary animals, has only broken it further for many players, introducing a startlingly wide range of glitches including connectivity issues, game crashes, player camps failing to spawn, and, tragically, even lower spawn rates for animals. Rockstar Games took to Twitter recently and promised imminent fixes for these issues, which have rendered the game totally unplayable for some.

Rockstar's message is encouraging but vague. The link doesn't offer much in the way of "more details," either; it redirects to what is basically just a repeat of the statement made in the tweet. In both places, Rockstar fails to identify any sort of time frame for when these fixes might go live, or any more information about the fix or why the bugs happened in the first place. Fans have reacted accordingly; at the time of this writing, of the 1069 players who offered input on Rockstar's support page announcement, only 272 found it helpful. The replies to the tweet above are also crowded with players expressing disappointment and outrage about this disastrous update.

It's not hard to see why fans are upset. Rockstar was clearly caught unawares by the many bugs in this update, and this tweet is pretty obviously a desperate scramble for damage control. Publicly addressing the problem is a good first step but fans are going to need a lot more, especially because, for the time being, they're still left with a totally unplayable game. It's especially tough to see this poor performance coming from Rockstar because fans know it knows better. Rockstar is responsible for some of the most beloved video games in the world. To see such a successful company fail so spectacularly is a discouraging sight. Hopefully today's tweet is a sign that Rockstar will keep communicating with fans and working to patch up Red Dead Online as soon as possible.
