New details for Zack Snyder's upcoming sci-fi film, Rebel Moon have been revealed, as images show the large cast of Netflix's Star Wars riff. Rebel Moon is the beginning of a new franchise headed by Snyder, inspired by Star Wars and the work of Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. The film will be split into two parts, filmed back-to-back, with the first part set releasing in December 2023.

Now, Vanity Fair revealed new details about Rebel Moon alongside images of the film's cast. Check out the images released of Rebel Moon below:

The movie sees the wealthy and politically powerful Imperium demanding resources from the moon of Veldt. However, Sofia Boutella's Kora rallies villagers on Veldt against the oppressive regime of the Imperium's Mother World. Little do the rebels realize that Mother World's imperial power is slipping, and Veldt's rebellion may be of greater importance than anyone realizes.

Everything To Expect From Rebel Moon

Rebel Moon won't just see the moon of Veldt, as multiple locations in Snyder's sci-fi universe are set to be explored. This comes in the form of Kora going to starship pilot Kai (Charlie Hunnam) to gather resources and assistance for Veldt's farmers in their rebellion. The core Rebel Moon cast is rounded out by Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a timid farmer that accompanies Kora on her mission to gather allies.

Additional Rebel Moon characters include General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), Tarak (Staz Nair), Nemesis (Doona Bae), Darrian (Ray Fisher), Devra (Cleopatra Coleman), and Milius (E. Duffy). These characters become the group's central members, as they each have their own reasons for fighting against Mother World. While the previously-listed cast all play human characters, Rebel Moon will also see Jena Malone play "an ethereal spider being" and Anthony Hopkins voice a robot named Jimmy.

While some comparisons can be drawn between Rebel Moon and Star Wars, Snyder's vision is unique. Rebel Moon will start a two-part film series, but with the number of creative ideas he has for different characters, Snyder could ignite a larger sci-fi franchise. Rebel Moon could launch a new creative endeavor for Netflix that lasts well beyond the potential of the two planned films.
