Rebel Moon co-writer Shay Hatten teases that, from what he's seen in the trailer, Zack Snyder's upcoming space opera is quite the sight to behold. After wrapping up his work in the DCU with Zack Snyder's Justice League, Snyder partnered with Netflix for Army of the Dead and his upcoming film, Rebel Moon. Snyder has previously shared behind-the-scenes images from the anticipated space epic and brief snippets of the film were shown off as part of Netflix's 2022 movie preview trailer.
Now, in a recent interview with Collider, Hatten hypes Snyder's upcoming film as a visual feast, revealing that he has the Rebel Moon trailer as well as bits and pieces of the rest of the film, which has now wrapped filming. While careful not to reveal too much, Hatten's comment would suggest that Rebel Moon might be Snyder's most impressive movie yet. Check out Hatten's full comment below:
"Rebel Moon is... I mean, it's in the can. It's in post-production right now. Zack [Snyder] is editing away, and I've seen bits and pieces of it. I've seen scenes here and there and a cut of the trailer. I haven't seen the full movie myself yet, but I'm very, very excited about it. I really feel so lucky to get to work with Zack … And I think with Rebel Moon, people will just see that it's him really getting to unleash his visual imagination to the fullest extent. And I think people will really dig it.”
Everything We Know About Rebel Moon
Rebel Moon is said to have originally been conceived as a more mature Star Wars movie before briefly being reworked into a TV show. The project would eventually end up at Netflix as a separate feature film, with the streamer having already greenlit a follow-up movie. Rebel Moon is said to be about a young woman named Kora (Sofia Boutella) who travels the galaxy in search of allies to face off against the tyrannical warlord Balisarius (Ed Skrein).
In addition to Boutella and Skrein, Rebel Moon boasts an impressive cast, including Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Anthony Hopkins, Michiel Huisman, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Corey Stoll, Cary Elwes, Cleopatra Coleman, and Ray Porter, among others. Housou will seemingly play a secondary antagonist in the film as General Titus, one of Baliarius' underlings. Hopkins, on the other hand, will feature in the film in a voice-only role, voicing a battle robot named Jimmy.
It's unclear who Hunnam is playing in Rebel Moon, but the character was briefly shown off in the 2022 Netflix movie preview wearing a hood and wielding a futuristic pistol. The same trailer also teases some of what's to come in the film, including some jaw-dropping CGI and some bone-crunching action scenes. While the trailer hasn't been released yet, it's also already been confirmed that Rebel Moon will get an R-rated extended cut, with a similar plan in place for its sequel.
