The first teaser for Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) has arrived, confirming that Harley Quinn's next adventure will be with a team of heroines rather than a team of villains. Featuring characters like Huntress and Black Canary, Quinn will be working further toward the good side to try and stop Black Mask in Gotham City.

However, we're still wondering what is happening with Suicide Squad 2. Why don't we have more details about the "worst heroes ever"? As Warner Bros. finds a new direction for its DC movies, we've come up with 10 reasons why we want Suicide Squad 2 before Birds of Prey.

FAMILIAR CHARACTERS

Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad

Part of what makes a franchise successful is that it establishes characters that audiences want to see return in the future. Suicide Squad already gave us a set of characters, some loved and others not so much. At the very least, having Suicide Squad 2 now could bring the best of those characters back, which would make it a bit more enticing for fans to watch.

Birds of Prey only has Harley Quinn right now, and we're betting that alone won't be enough to get people hyped about the film. If it were Suicide Squad 2 with more Captain Boomerang and Deadshot included, that might be a bit more exciting.

SHOT AT REDEMPTION

SUICIDE SQUAD - David Ayer & Margot Robbie

It's no secret that the critical reception for Suicide Squad could've been much better. The reshoots and direction change went on to hurt rather than help the film. With Suicide Squad 2, though, Warner Bros. could fix its own mistakes. It's already trying to restructure the DC movies for the better.

In this new era of films like Aquaman, the concept of the Suicide Squad could be pushed a bit farther to create a unique, quirky, and fun movie. Among the DC movies, Suicide Squad is the one that deserves a second chance. With a new head on its shoulders, Warner Bros. could likely make it happen too.

NO SERIOUS INTRODUCTIONS

The only character in Birds of Prey that most fans are already familiar with is Harley Quinn. The rest of the cast is composed of entirely new characters for fans of just the DC movies. Featuring another superhero collaboration team, it's possible that it could fall into the same mistakes as Suicide Squad did with its need to do a lot of character introductions.

Had Suicide Squad 2 come out before Birds of Prey there wouldn't be much need to do those things, as we would already be acquainted with most of the cast. Sure, there would be new faces, but they would supplement the pre-existing characters rather than take control of the entire film.

MORE DC VILLAINS

Black Mask and Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi

The DC movies haven't explored the colorful roster of villains that made their comics so successful. The DCEU brought characters like Doctor Poison and Steppenwolf to the big screen but made them so uninteresting that they were easily forgotten. With Suicide Squad 2, it would be a perfect opportunity to introduce more fan-favorite villains from the comics and make them more complex characters.

Even the antagonist could be another DC villain that fans have been dying to see for some time. In the way of villains in Birds of Prey, it seems that we're only getting Black Mask -- Harley Quinn doesn't count.

JOKER AS AN ANTAGONIST

Jared Leto as the Joker in Suicide Squad smiling maniacally as he looks ahead

There is a lot of potential by having the Joker return for Suicide Squad 2. Instead of the odd role he had in the first film, the sequel could frame him as the antagonist, similar to how Batman: Assault on Arkham was handled. It would give an interesting dynamic with the Squad as well as give Harley Quinn a much-needed reason to be on the team.

Jared Leto got very few of his scenes put in the first movie, so Suicide Squad 2 would be the chance to see what he can do as the Clown Prince of Crime. Make him the villain, and suddenly, things would get a lot more serious than posisbly anything in Birds of Prey.

DEADSHOT'S RETURN

Deadshot (Will Smith) Uses a Rifle in Suicide Squad

There were a few highlights in Suicide Squad, but one of them was Will Smith's Deadshot. While it seems that he's been left behind due to the poor reception of the majority of the DCEU films, there is potential in that version of the character.

Birds of Prey shouldn't include Deadshot, as it's a female-led story. Considering Deadshot still has more life in him, he could offer a lot to Suicide Squad 2 and his dynamic with Harley Quinn could be better explored. Even his arc with his daughter could be more of an emotional narrative, having seen this relationship previously.

POTENTIAL BLACK ADAM APPEARANCE

Supervillain Movies Black Adam

It seems ages ago when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced that he would be playing Black Adam in the DCEU. Years have gone by, and he has yet to make a single appearance. There was talk about him appearing in Suicide Squad 2, with rumors both confirming and denying his presence.

Either way, there's a lot of potential with including such a powerful character like Black Adam. It could lead the Suicide Squad to new and exciting territories as well as explore more ridiculous comic book stuff. That's something that Birds of Prey won't be able to do, as it seems largely focused around non-powered heroes.

JAMES GUNN'S VISION

James Gunn and Suicide Squad Script Background

There was an initial plan for Suicide Squad 2, but that seems to have changed with the production of Birds of Prey. The movie isn't being directed by David Ayer, who directed the first film. Warner Bros. settled on a second director, but those plans fell through as well. James Gunn is writing the script, with the possibility of directing the movie.

This would make Suicide Squad 2 extremely exciting, as it seemed to be inspired by Guardians of the Galaxy from the start. With Gunn at the helm, the movie could embrace the crazier side of the concept and become much better as a result. We're just excited to see it as soon as possible.

AMANDA WALLER

Amanda Waller Pentagon Suicide Squad

Among the well-received characters in Suicide Squad was Amanda Waller, the one responsible for organizing the team. She was threatening, cold, and arguably more dangerous than Enchantress. With Birds of Prey, this character is essentially gone, leaving a Waller-shaped hole in the DCEU.

With Suicide Squad 2, that would give us the chance to see Waller back in action once more. The extent of her reach in the DC films could be better explored and her continued control over the characters could be an interesting topic to discuss. We don't know if the new characters will chew the screen in Birds of Prey.

LESS CONFUSION

Cassandra Cain in Birds of Prey

Birds of Prey has its work cut out for it. It needs to explain what Harley Quinn was doing since the events of Suicide Squad and why she ended up leaving the Joker. It also needs to establish the other main characters and why they're relevant to the story. On top of that, it has to set up a plot with Cassandra Cain, who served as a sidekick to Batman (though it's unclear if that will be included in the film).

Then, with Black Canary in the mix, it could also somehow confirm the existence of Green Arrow, who hasn't yet appeared in a DC film. Suicide Squad 2 would be less confusing, as many viewers have already been introduced to the concept.
