Be Our Chef

Be Our Chef Family

Disney+’s Be Our Chef is hosted by The Office’s Angela Kinsey. Unlike her Office character, Kinsey offers a warm, bubbly tone to this reality cooking competition. Be Our Chef features families going head-to-head in bracket style cook-offs. Each week, they cook around a theme. For example, the theme could be Cinderella’s favorite foods. The families use that basic concept and create a dish around the idea. They’re then judged by a professional Disney chef. At the end of the competition, one family wins a Disney vacation cruise. It’s a cute series that will appeal to families who enjoy series like Nailed It! And Masterchef: Junior.  Available to stream here

Marvel’s Hero Project

Marvel Hero Project Jordan 2

A team of Marvel creators team up to create an exclusive comic book for the child featured each week. Each episode of Marvel’s Hero Project introduces an extraordinary child who has done something heroic, like bring more awareness to the needs of the disabled and inspire other children to create. This Marvel TV show works because it’s inspiring and heartwarming. It could inspire kids and adults to create things that make life better for everyone, or it could just end with everyone watching while tears roll down their faces. It’s that heartfelt. Families who love reality shows with a message or highlight exceptional humans, then Marvel’s Hero Project is the way to go. Available to stream here.

Bug Juice

Bug juice 2017-2

Disney Channel fans of the late-90s and early-2000s may remember Bug Juice, a series about camp life. In 2017, Disney revived the series at a new camp. The new version of Bug Juice, set at Camp Waziyatah in Waterford, Maine, is available on Disney+. The series follows specific campers to show their trials and tribulations during their summer at camp. It’s a compelling series with similar drama you would find on shows like The Real World but from the perspective and problems of children. It’s a good show to watch for both lighthearted and serious moments, which will keep your family entertained and informed. Available to stream here

Shop Class

A group of young inventors team up with shop teachers to build different projects each week, such as a miniature library. Actor and comedian Justin Long hosts Shop Class. He brings a quirky sense of humor to the series, and the way the children react to it is one of this series’ highlights. Shop Class is one of the longer series on the list with episodes running for over 40 minutes (versus the rest of the series being under 30), but the drama and anticipation of the final product completely absorbs you. Shop Class is another series that may inspire families to try to test their own skills with craft projects. Available to stream here.

Disney+ might be a good investment for families searching for more wholesome reality shows to watch together.
