Andy Cohen invited rapper Nicki Minaj to host the fourth part of the Real Housewives of Potomac season 6 reunion, but fans seem to be unhappy with her performance. When Andy Cohen revealed Nicki as a surprise guest host, the RHOP cast members were thrilled and gave her a warm welcome. As Andy handed his chair over to her, he asked the housewives to “respect the host” and gracefully bowed out. Prior to her coming to the stage, Andy told Nicki that it was okay for her to take sides and gave her full permission to ask all the tough questions.
Nicki is a self-proclaimed superfan of RHOP and has been watching the show since it premiered on Bravo. Upon greeting the women, Nicki told them that she loves and respects them all. However, the niceties ended when she came guns blazing for Ashley Darby and accused her of only going on the Williamsburg trip to stir up drama with Wendy Osefo because she didn’t have a storyline this season. Nicki stated that Ashley, who had just welcomed a baby, should have stayed home. Ashley tried to defend herself, and in a shocking turn of events, Candiace Dillard defended Ashley and claimed that everyone has to work. It was a nice moment between the two rivals that fans appreciated.
Candiace was also in the hot seat when Nicki turned to her and asked about her music career. Initially, Nicki asked how her album was doing on the charts. When Candiace replied, Nicki looked unimpressed. She also accused Candiace of using autotune, which fans thought was a shady moment given that using autotune is pretty standard for a lot of musicians nowadays and Nicki could've shown her more support. Then, Nicki put Candiace on the spot again by making her sing her hit song “Drive Back” even though she was clearly uncomfortable. During a commercial break, Candiace’s husband Chris Bassett fumed about Nicki’s relentless grilling, while Andy tried to placate him by saying that Candiace did a great job. Nicki and Chris further exchanged words on Twitter when Nicki wrote, “Candy gurl husband really need to sit his ass down chi LMFAO,” to which Chris responded, “I don’t need to do nothing but support my wife.”
During a more lighthearted moment, Nicki asked BFFs Robyn Dixon and Gizelle Bryant if they ever shared a bed, to which they responded yes. However, fans were less than pleased when she asked if they were more than friends. She also commented that Gizelle looked different than she did on RHOP season 1, which seemed to imply that she had plastic surgery done. When Nicki asked Gizelle if her beauty was fading, it left the other housewives taken aback. It seemed intentionally done for shock value and didn’t address any major storylines from this season.
While some viewers applauded Nicki’s straightforward line of questioning, many didn’t appreciate her abrasive style and found her to be unnecessarily mean. Fans were also disappointed with Bravo for allowing her to host the Real Housewives of Potomac reunion out of the blue. Still, having a guest host definitely stirred things up, and it'll be interesting to see if Andy Cohen will graciously lend his chair to anyone ever again.
