Candiace Dillard is coming under fire after claiming colorism is the reason why she's held to a different standard on The Real Housewives of Potomac. She's currently locked in a messy feud with newcomer Mia Thornton. After making comments about Mia's mom, viewers are blasting Candiace for what she said. However, Candiace believes she's only being criticized because dark skin women on the show are held to a different standard than others.
It looks like Candiace's nasty brawl with Monique Samuels wasn't enough to change her journey on the show. Last season, Candiace's constant verbal jabs at Monique ultimately led to them getting physical. Mia has come on the show as Monique's replacement and hasn't been the easiest to get along with. But her latest showdown with Candiace got ugly when Candiace repeatedly made "your mama" jokes about Mia's mom. The problem is that Mia's mom is a recovering addict and Candiace seemingly making a mockery of her is just being perceived as a low blow.
Candiace's digs at Mia's mom have put her back into the hot seat. During an interview with The RHOP After Show (included below), Candiace attempted to defend her actions claiming she's only judged more because she's of darker skin tone. "I get upset because I feel like once again standards are different, we can talk about why that is if you would like, but the standards are different for me and those who look like me in this group because I respond better than you," Candiace quipped. Her comments make the assumption that viewers are harsher with their judgment of her than others like Mia, Gizelle Bryant, Ashley Darby, and Robyn Dixon.
With that said, certain viewers don't agree with Candiace. Many fans took to the comments and blasted Candiace for claiming colorism while defending her vicious verbal jabs. "Candiace doesn't always argue the issue at hand," one viewer said. "Once you start making personal attacks, you have lost the argument. Given Candiace's unapologetic stance, she shouldn't cry later." Candiace has often been called out for making verbal attacks and then taking little to no accountability and getting upset over the things that have been done to her. Another onlooker noted how Candiace has never made "your mama" jokes before, so it's also questionable why she is doing so now. "Candiace knows about Mia's mom. She's never used the mom line and all of the other ladies' mothers have been on the show," they said. "She's saying it too much as if she thinks it's a trigger."
While it's all fan speculation at this point, many fans are on that same page. Candiace took things way too far by joking about Mia's mom. Knowing the history and struggles her mom has, Candiace should have avoided making any mention of her altogether. Her unapologetic response to the low blows shows why she was judged more harshly here. While Mia is no saint, she never made mention of Candiace's mom and resorted to throwing salad at Candiace instead of continuing the verbal back and forth. The two ladies have taken more jabs on social media and it looks like their feud will carry over to The Real Housewives of Potomac reunion.
