Many women have come and gone from Real Housewives of New York, and not all of them have managed to cut their ties with on good terms. Over the years, many fans have started to wonder what happens when a housewife leaves the show. In the case of Alex McCord, she went off camera and become a peer-reviewed psychologist. This housewife has put her scientific mind to good use.

Alex McCord was part of the original RHONY cast when the show began back in 2008. She was on the show for a total of four seasons before she decided to part ways. She didn't just leave the show, however, she also left the country. Alex and husband, Simon van Kempen, packed up and moved to Byron Bay, Australia with their two children.

Instead of being a reality TV star or lounging around, Alex McCord started working on a master's degree in Psychology. Through her psychological research, she recently shared that her first peer-reviewed article won an award from the Australian Psychological Society. According to The Daily Mail, Alex's published piece titled "Short video game play improves executive function in the oldest old living in residential care" was awarded the Elsie Harwood Award for excellence in geriatric research for an Honors or Graduate thesis. Without a doubt, this seems like a rather prestigious honor. Overall, the intention behind this award is to incentivize students to complete research in geriatrics.

Former RHONY star Alex McCord said the following about receiving the award: "Thrilled that my research on which my first peer-reviewed journal article was based has also won a national award." Along with that caption, Alex included a photo of her and the paper. Alex then did the same after earning her master's degree in Psychology. This time, the caption read, "Call me master. (Not mistress)." It is safe to say that Alex is excited about her success in the field of psychology, but she has more than just that to celebrate. During the same month she gained her master's degree, she also celebrated her 20th wedding anniversary. She shared plenty of photos of her and her partner celebrating this achievement. All in all, this intelligent lady seems to be doing just fine without RHONY.

Now that Alex McCord has a master's degree in Psychology, it'll be interesting to see what she does with it. She could always continue doing research or perhaps become a therapist. In any case, Alex has come a long way from just being a former Real Housewives of New York star.
