Teresa Giudice and Joe Giudice of The Real Housewives of New Jersey never had the best marriage. But what were some of the worst moments as husband and wife, and why didn't they divorce sooner? Some would argue it was when he lied to Teresa about their taxes. Others would claim it was when Teresa caused issues between her husband and brother. For whatever reason, the duo was not made to last. There were clues but both missed the boat.
Joe and Teresa called it quits back in December of 2019 when they officially separated. Fans watched on the newest season the couple finalized their divorce after 20 years of marriage. Teresa told Bravo cameras the time that it was the “easiest divorce in the world,” and Joe didn’t try to steal her money. For years there had been cheating rumors, and it looked like their time behind bars did them in, especially after Joe served three years and got deported back to Italy.
Teresa, for her part, always seemed to be the perfect old-school wife who watched the kids and had dinner on the table every evening. In contrast, Joe came across as an overgrown man child. There have been numerous times fans cringed at their relationship. Who could forget the winery trip from hell? Jacqueline Laurita Loria and Teresa were trying to mend fences, but instead, Joe was caught on an intimate phone call to what fans can only assume was his mistress. The whole altercation was sketchy.
Fans also watched a time when the couple was bickering in the family kitchen, and Joe threatened to “smack” Teresa’s head against a wall. Many Bravo fans and even her sister-in-law Melissa Gorga, felt that Teresa had been unhappy for the last ten years. In the same episode that aired back in 2016, Joe seemingly demanded sex from his wife, saying, “You better stop being so f–king tired at night. Otherwise, you’re going to be out the door when I come out.”
It was always evident that neither party was happy in their relationship. Teresa mentioned on the current season that she almost left Joe back in the early days after she found a secret cell phone. But their daughter Gia was only three, and the housewife has just left her job in real estate, so she felt she had no choice but to stay. Now at least Teresa and Joe can move on and have their separate lives.
