Fans of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills have been curious about the details of cast member Dorit Kemsley’s horrific robbery, and she recently explained why her alarm wasn’t on the night of the invasion. In October 2021, after RHOBH season 11 finished filming, Dorit came back from attending a wedding in London. She arrived home with her children, Jagger and Phoenix Kemsley, while her husband PK Kemsley stayed behind in England for a few extra days to finish some business.

That same night, armed intruders broke into their Beverly Hills home while Dorit and her kids were in bed. Her security cameras caught the burglars smashing the glass door that led to the kid's “school room” and they made their way upstairs to Dorit’s bedroom. The intruders pointed their guns at her while they forced her to take them to her valuables. The RHOBH star begged the robbers to spare her life, pleading that she was a mother and implored them not to hurt her babies.

While RHOBH viewers were horrified about what happened, many wondered why Dorit’s security system didn’t go off and alert the police. In a recent Watch What Happens Live episode, Dorit explained to Andy Cohen, “I have small children. They usually get up in the middle of the night and usually come to my room.” Dorit explained that she turns the alarm off at night so her kids wouldn’t set it off. She shared, “If I put the alarm on - and the reason why I don’t or hadn’t before - is because they could drift downstairs and then the alarm would go off.”

Many fans assumed that former RHOBH housewife Teddi Mellencamp’s husband Edwin Arroyace installed Dorit’s security system. Edwin is the founder and CEO of Skyline Security Management, which is a business that provides security systems for residences. However, Teddi recently tweeted, “To be clear, Edwin did not do Dorit’s alarm or security system. So Twitter can take a breath.” Teddi was one of the RHOBH’s “Fox Force Five” group to rally around Dorit the day after the incident, along with Kyle Richards, Erika Jayne, and Lisa Rinna.

Dorit shared in the first episode of RHOBH season 12 that her kids usually sleep with her. However, that night, they had just flown in from London and she was exhausted. Her kids had fallen asleep with her but she carried them to their bedroom so she could get a good night’s sleep. The RHOBH star felt fortunate that the chain of events happened that way so that her children were spared from the intrusion. Many fans of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills sympathized with Dorit while she recounted the terrifying night and felt relief that she and her family were safe from the horrific ordeal.
