Recently, NeNe Leakes has participated and promoted the Boycott Bravo movement. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star is very close to the issues with the network.

In September, NeNe Leakes left the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Fans were shocked by the news considering that she has been a part of the reality series since day one. In 2015, she exited the show, but returned in Season 10 after two years. Prior to the Boycott Bravo movement, NeNe has alleged that systemic racism played a role in her struggles with Bravo. “We strictly talking to OG’s. I was the ONLY BLACK OG,” Leakes tweeted in September. “My white counter parts were elevated and given full season episodes EVERY season. Each season I was given less & less.” In October, Nene appeared on a talk show where she discussed the matter further. “I can’t tell you everything that I want from them but I can tell you that I want fair treatment. I deserve fair treatment,” the Real Housewife said. “I haven’t done anything that no one else has done there, or haven’t done even worse… I don’t deserve this treatment. I’m as confused as you are.”

On Tuesday, NeNe tweeted a link to the #BoycottBravo petition, as reported by Page Six. The online petition was posted to Change.org and has been signed by over 10,000 fans. Currently, the goal is to reach 15,000 signees. The petition states that they are putting Bravo “on notice” because of “unfair and biased treatment they have displayed towards their African American talent.” The petition also says, “This action by Bravo network is affirmation of systemic racism and inequality that the African American community faces and struggles with currently in society.” A representative from Bravo declined commenting on the matter further.

Y’all ready to start this boycott yet? What has happened behind the scenes is WRONG!” NeNe wrote on Twitter. “While others were being promoted, BLACK WOMEN who created shows, created genres, built franchise and built networks were being DEMOTED… TURN OFF YOUR TV’S.She encouraged her followers to sign the petition and join the #BoycottBravo movement. “Sign the petitions when you see them, repost the boycott flyers when you see them, turn off your TVs.” If you’re interested in signing the petition, visit Change.org

NeNe has been a fan favorite of the Real Housewives of Atlanta ever since the series started in 2008. Even though we don’t know the details of the situation, Leakes is closer to the problem than we ever will be. We have to trust her judgment and fight for change in the entertainment industry.
