NeNe Leakes remained transparent while sharing her husband's battle with cancer on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. It was hard for the show star and she struggled to maintain her peace during the tough time. Many celebrated with NeNe when Greg Leakes successfully beat the disease. But, the OG housewife recently revealed her husband has been in surgery after his cancer returned.
It was back in 2018 when NeNe first revealed Greg's cancer diagnosis. She shared a photo of her longtime partner at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston with a caption saying it was "Our New Normal and the fight begins #f--kcancer." During the season 11 premiere, NeNe revealed that Greg was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer. She shared how hard it was for her to stay strong for her family, but she knew it's what she had to do. Greg was also transparent about his battle and even shared an emotional moment where he wrote a letter to NeNe in the event he didn't survive. By November 2019, NeNe revealed that Greg was cancer-free.
But during a recent Instagram Live with The Jasmine Brand, NeNe revealed that Greg's cancer has returned and he has undergone surgery. "He's been in the hospital, tomorrow will be a week," the Bravo star shared before expressing hope for his return home. "I'm sure he'll be home in about a week or so. He had to have a surgery." She noted that her husband "had this surgery before," but didn't want to get too much into the sensitive subject. "This is the first time I'm saying something about it," NeNe added. "I'd love everybody to pray for Gregg...pray for his strength...and pray for me, too."
She also touched on how Greg's second bout with cancer has taken a toll on his body. "It's difficult," NeNe explained. "He's super small. If you've ever been around somebody who's had cancer before, he's different. He's different." With her exiting the show last year, Greg will be able to receive treatment without having to share his journey on television. Fans have followed the Leakes family life over the 12 seasons NeNe starred on RHOA. They're one of the only Housewives couples to ever get divorced and remarried on the show and make it through moves to LA, NYC, and back to Atlanta.
Greg has remained a constant support to NeNe as her career took off after becoming a reality star. With over 20 years of marriage under their belt, they have shared a number of memories on and offscreen. They're one of the long-running Real Housewives of Atlanta couples, despite their brief separation. Like viewers did in season 11, they are rallying behind NeNe and Greg and sending their love and support as the Leakes make it through this next hurdle.
