The teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One is now online, following its premiere at Warner Bros. Pictures' San Diego Comic-Con 2017 panel. After spending some time dabbling in the non-fiction and fantasy genres, Spielberg is making his return to science fiction next year with an adaptation of Ernest Cline's best-selling novel, Ready Player One. Set in a dystopian future, the novel (and the movie) follows protagonist Wade Owen Watts ( Tye Sheridan), aka Parzival, who plays the virtual reality game, OASIS.

Parzival plays as an egg hunter -- or gunter -- and the purpose behind the game is for someone to discover the hidden easter egg left behind by its creator, James Donovan Halliday (Mark Rylance), the founder of Gregarious Games. The first person to uncover the easter egg, which can only be discovered by completing numerous puzzles and riddles, is awarded Halliday's gaming empire. In order to keep things fresh for those who've read the novel, Spielberg and his team have added their own riddles into the mix, thus making Ready Player One somewhat of an original story, despite also being quite faithful to the source material.

The first look image showing Sherdian's Parzival playing OASIS released just last week, and now people can have their first real look at the world Spielberg has crafted on the big screen. Warner Bros. officially debuted the first teaser trailer for Spielberg's Ready Player One during their Hall H panel at SDCC 2017, before releasing it to the public. You can watch the trailer in the section above.

Spielberg is known for frequently collaborating with specific actors -- namely Tom Hanks and Harrison Ford -- and Ready Player One marks the third collaboration between him and Rylance over the past two years or so. Rylance previously portrayed Rudolf Abel in Spielberg's 2015 film, Bridge of Spies, for which he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, as well as the giant in 2016's The BFG. Unfortunately, this also marks the third time in which John Williams won't be working on a Spielberg film, due to scheduling conflicts with Spielberg's The Papers, which releases later this year. Instead, legendary composer Alan Silvestri (The Avengers, Back to the Future) will be filling in for Williams.

In addition to Rylance and Sheridan, Ready Player One also stars the likes of Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Cooke, T.J. Miller, and Simon Pegg, among others. The film was originally slated to release this December, but it was later pushed back to spring 2018 in order to avoid competition with Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Perhaps audiences will get the second trailer for Ready Player One around the time Justice League (or another Warner Bros. feature) releases this fall.
