The Capcom family suffered a tragic loss on January 24, as voice actress Jeanette Maus passed away at the age of 39. Maus will voice the witches who accompany the fan-favorite villain Lady Dimitrescu, who she refers to as her "daughters," in the upcoming Resident Evil game Resident Evil 8: Village, along with several other characters. Although RE8 is not due for release until May 7, 2021, the loss of Jeanette Maus has clearly caused a significant impact on the gaming world.

Born in 1982, Maus grew up in the Northwest and studied theater at Seattle's Cornish College of the Arts. After graduation, she worked in commercials and also taught at John Rosenfeld Studios for almost 10 years. In addition to her voice acting work, Maus was also a co-writer and actor in the 2008 film My Effortless Brilliance. Other notable acting credits include 2011's Your Sister's Sister and an appearance in the movie Charm City Kings in 2020.

Capcom Dev 1's official Twitter account commented on January 27 they "are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Jeanette Maus." Capcom also wished condolences to Maus' family and loved ones. John Rosenfeld Studios also mentioned Maus' death in an Instagram post, describing the actress as having "an indomitable spirit and was hungry to be the best person, the best teacher, the best friend and the best actor she could be." Maus had been publicly battling colon cancer for the last eight months, setting up a GoFundMe campaign with her fiancé in order to help cover her medical expenses. She was also dealing with Crohn's disease and had contracted COVID-19 prior to her passing.

Though Maus may not have lived to see how her voice brought to life the daughters of Lady Dimitrescu, early reports indicate she did a fantastic job. Considering the fandom Lady Dimitrescu inspired from her appearance in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, that's quite an accomplishment, especially for a newcomer to video game voice acting. The voice of the daughters was heard at the beginning of the recently-released trailer, and the daughters appeared throughout the trailer. Maus' chilling laugh, in particular, garnered notice from fans of the Resident Evil games.

Although Resident Evil 8: Village would have been Maus' first video game voice acting credit, her impact has already clearly been felt. Based on the outpouring of condolences from those in the gaming industry and support to her surviving loved ones, she was poised to do great things in the new Resident Evil game. Already there has been an outpouring of support from fans of her acting work on Twitter, showing Maus was a wonderful talent who will be missed.
