The ghosts of Bolger Glade in Red Dead Redemption 2 have been haunting players for almost two years, but thanks to a dedicated fan their long-gone words can be heard once again with clarity. Legendary beasts, locations and side quests can be more easily spotted while galloping across the plains and through mountain ranges, but solving this mystery took some extra tech-savviness that proved fans weren’t going insane when they heard voices in the air when they were near a very specific part of the Red Dead map.

There are plenty of meaning details scattered across the game’s massive map that bring the world to life, with this mystery being found in a small pocket of the Scarlett Meadows region. East of Braithwaite Manor players can find the ruins of the Battle of Scarlett Meadows during the Civil War, and it is among those ruins that players have reported hearing voices of the soldiers who fought during that very battle. Thanks to some new sound clips, those once mysterious voices can now be heard in full, leading players to go back to the ruins to discover them in-game.

The soundbites were originally datamined and posted by Youtuber ReadDeadUnderground, wherein listeners can hear a full conversation between a soldier and a character named General Harris as gunfire and horse whinnying dominate the background. This prompted Reddit user MonsterTheKing55 to go looking for the ghostly sounds at Bolger Glade, and sure enough, under the right circumstances on a stormy night, the player was able to hear a faded, haunting version of the exchange while looking out the window of the nearby church. The data mined audio can be heard above, while the in-game playback can be found below courtesy of Redditor MonsterTheKing55:

While some may have been able to discover these voices for themselves during their time with the game, for many, this was a mystery that bordered on urban legend, or just something to feel uneasy about alongside certain creept outhouses. But now with so much detail coming to light players can now encounter the very real, creepy voices for themselves, under the right circumstances, of course. Commenters have talked about being able to find the voices for themselves for the first time, adding it to the list of other terrifying Red Dead locations.

Being the Rockstar game that it is, it should come as no shock to seasoned players that there’s this level of environmental storytelling in Red Dead Redemption 2 as there is. Whether it be the Rat King of GTA IV or a Bigfoot in GTA V, there’s no shortage of urban legends that litter these big worlds for fans to discover. However, the ghosts of Bolger Glade are no longer a mystery, and now players can saddle up, head towards those ruins, and do some ghost hunting of their own. Just don’t expect a supernatural gun duel.
