A fan has made a post-apocalyptic version of Saint Denis in Red Dead Redemption 2 to give fans a glimpse of what an Undead Nightmare 2 story DLC could have been if it were a Rockstar Games priority. Undead Nightmare is a standalone expansion for Red Dead Redemption that released in 2010. The expansion features an alternate timeline, a post-apocalyptic story that sees John Marston attempt to find a cure for a zombie plague that has infected his wife and son whilst helping out the people he comes across along the way.
Developer Rockstar Games has yet to announce a sequel to Undead Nightmare in Red Dead Redemption 2. In fact, the developer has yet to release any single-player DLC for the game since it launched in 2018. Most of the updates Rockstar Games has done so far has been for Red Dead Online, the online multiplayer component of Red Dead Redemption 2, which players had previously hoped would host its own zombie-themed event. This rebuke of post-launch Red Dead Redemption 2 story content has even encouraged some desperate fans to petition Rockstar Games for DLC.
A video of the fanmade, post-apocalyptic Saint Denis was created by and shared on the Red Dead Redemption subreddit by user MSlingerW. According to the creator, the modded Saint Denis was built using the RDR2 Map Editor mod by Lambdarevolution, which is required to run the modded map. The Post-Apocalyptic Saint Denis map mod itself is hosted on Nexusmods.
While the post-apocalyptic Saint Denis mod is still a work in progress, some of its already available features include a field hospital inside the tram station, shops featuring boarded up windows, a jungle area in and around the city’s park, a post-apocalyptic camp, and other features that help make the area look more immersive including broken carts, coaches, dead bodies, and more. MSlingerW has said that they will continue to work on the map until it covers the entirety of Saint Denis.
Put plainly, the mod looks rather impressive. It can be hoped that the creator does keep working on it to cover the entirety of Saint Denis, perhaps inspire themselves or others to expand the mao to cover more towns, cities, and areas within Red Dead Redemption 2. Given that Rockstar Games won't probably ever release an Undead Nightmare follow-up for Red Dead Redemption 2 - as they’re currently busy working on other titles and raking in online multiplayer revenue - a fanmade expansion may be the only way for players to experience anything similar to it.
