Red Dead Online is about to get a whole lot spookier with a dark duo of legendary animals, a Dead of Night game mode, a special Halloween Pass, and more. Red Dead Redemption has a long history of showing player the supernatural side of the Wild West. Undead Nightmare, a DLC which transformed Marston’s tale into a zombie survival horror, was arguably one of the franchises most popular pieces of content. So much so that fans still hope to see Undead Nightmare return in some from, even ten years later.

That may be why so many rumors have been swirling recently about what Red Dead Online’s Halloween event would look like. There was a report last month that the team at Rockstar Games were getting ready to unleash the zombie hordes on the game's open plains. An even earlier rumor suggested that the game’s Halloween content would allow players to morph into a spectral woodland creature, but that doesn't seem to be a thing - yet.

After months of speculation, Rockstar has officially unveiled Red Dead Online’s eerie seasonal content. The first treat in the studio’s bag of goodies is the Halloween Pass, a paid upgrade with twenty new ranks for fans interested in obtaining clothes, gear, and even tavern décor with that special ghoulish charm. This limited-time offer is up now but is only available until November 16. If paying for a pass sounds more like a trick than a treat, the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Club membership open to all online players will be passing out rewards like the Phantom Buck Horse Mask and the Noir Advanced Camera filter during this time.

Not limited to cosmic in-game items, this year’s festivities will also include Halloween-inspired gameplay as Rockstar rolls out the Dead of Night Mode. Dead of Night Mode will challenge four teams to take on The Dead, however the teams will receive points not only for combatting the nightmarish foe, but also for causing the deaths of the other teams. Jumping into this strange fray in the next seven days will net players some additional bonuses, like three times the typical payout and a gift containing fiery tools and melee weapons. Continuing the spooky theme, and Rockstar’s fascination with releasing two Legendary animals at a time, Red Dead Online’s Naturalists can start tracking down a deadly pair of panthers that have been sighted around Bluewater Marsh and Bolger Glade.

A far cry from just a few months ago when players were thirsting for new Red Dead Online content, Rockstar has been flooding its virtual cowboy adventure lately with things to draw players in and keep fans playing. This new Halloween update is no exception with new modes, items and a generous heaping of discounts. Though it may not be the Undead Nightmare successor that some fans were hoping for, there is a lot to enjoy in this year’s Halloween event.
