Justice League actor Ray Fisher has called out Warner Bros. after their recent Black History Month tweet. Fisher first burst onto the screen as DC's Cyborg in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Fisher went on the play the role again in Justice League, which was infamously fraught with both a troubled shoot, and then very poor reviews upon its release. As many may know, much of this is due to the fact that director Zack Snyder had to leave the project before production wrapped due to a family tragedy. The Avengers director Joss Whedon was brought in to finish the film. It was during this period that Fisher's problems with Warner Bros. first began.

During the summer of 2021, Fisher went public with his experience, tweeting that Whedon had engaged in abusive behavior on set. He also stated that he believed the behavior had been enabled by Geoff Johns and Jon Berg, two executives of Warner Bros. As many will remember, Fisher was not the only person to speak out against Whedon that summer. Many cast and crew members of previous Whedon productions came forward to cite similar experiences working with him. The accusations came particularly loudly from many of the cast members of Whedon's massively successful series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. After Fisher's accusation, WarnerMedia launched an investigation into his claims. Fisher has continued to post criticisms of how the investigation is being handled on Twitter, and has also cited this as a reason for him being dropped from the upcoming DC film The Flash.

This, of course, has not stopped Fisher from continuing to criticize Warner Bros. Most recently, Fisher took to Twitter to draw attention to how Warner Bros. was deciding to support Black History Month. The company released a tweet featuring pictures of Deadshot (Will Smith), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett) and Bloodsport (Idris Elba) to highlight some of DC's superheroes who are portrayed by black actors. The pictures are captioned with "this Black History Month, we're spotlighting some of our favorite DC characters." Fisher has shared the tweet with the retort, "OR….you could try spotlighting an apology to the non-fictional Black people affected by your company’s racist and discriminatory practices," indicating that the company would rather gloss over his allegations to assert that they have never participated in racist behavior. As one can imagine, many have taken to the comments section to show their support for Fisher with many kind words and Cyborg gifs, and one Ghostbusters gif depicting Bill Murray saying "Go get her, Ray!" However, if one digs through the comments, others can be found who don't fully support Fisher's stance. Some have are wondering why he would criticize Warner Bros. for supporting Black History Month, and others seem to think Fisher is bold to expect anything after spending so much time criticizing the company.

While the response to Fisher is mostly positive, some of the negative comments to the actor's tweet prove just how far is still left to go for accusations like Fisher's to be taken seriously. As it stands, no real results seem to have been yielded from the investigation, and it doesn't appear that these accusations have hindered the success of any subsequent DC films. The only real change seems to be that Fisher has been dropped from The Flash. With that said, it is inspiring to see that this has not stopped Fisher from continuing his fight, and perhaps one day Fisher will be able to take up the mantle of Cyborg again.
