Ray Donovan's upcoming sixth season will involve the titular character making a cross-country move to New York as Showtime has renewed the crime drama series ahead of its season finale. The show, which stars Liev Schrieber as the titular character whose life revolves around fixing problems for the powerful and rich in Hollywood, will soon set foot on the Big Apple where we can expect to him continue his prolific work as elite's go-to problem solver.

The fifth season of the popular Showtime series may still be ongoing, but the premium cable network has already ordered a full season renewal for Ray Donovan, proving the company's continued faith in the show. The upcoming outing will consist of 12 episodes and production slated to kick-off sometime early next year.

In a presser, Gary Levin, Showtime Networks, Inc. president of programming, expressed his delight with what Ray Donovan was able to achieve with its bold and emotional narrative for its fifth season, not to mention a steady viewership rating that averages nearly 5 million every week across all platforms. He also cited showrunner David Hollander's contribution to the success of the show and his vision for the series moving forward:

”RAY DONOVAN broke new ground this season with its deeply emotional and innovative approach to Abby’s passing, without sacrificing any of the intensity that has been its trademark. We so appreciate that David Hollander is never satisfied with the status quo, and his creative plan for moving the show to New York reflects his relentless ambition for this series.”

Hollander, for his part, briefly gave us an idea as to what Ray's move to New York will mean for him and the story arc that the show is treading. And even he is thrilled with what exciting opportunities, creatively, the East coast will present to the show.

“For our show, creatively, New York is exciting. Fashion, media, finance, theatre, culture. It’s going to present new challenges for Ray Donovan which mean new opportunities for us as dramatists. Ray came to Los Angeles to build a life for himself and his family. They're not there anymore. Ray's career has changed and he is looking for a place to rebuild his life. Ray thinks he went to New York to help his daughter. He's going to find out he's there to help himself.”

While the promise of a New York City with a fixer with Donovan's caliber in it is intriguing enough, lest we forget that the season finale for the fifth year of Ray Donovan is still on its way. If anything, we can expect that whatever it is that goes down in the anticipated capper will give us a hint as to where we will see the Irish-American next as we pick up for the series' sixth outing.
