Raven from the Teen Titans has become of the most popular cosplays, thanks to the hero's amazing hooded costume. So, it was no surprise that this month many cosplayers showed off their takes on Raven at New York Comic Con 2021. Among the Rachel Roth cosplays, one, in particular, stood out, as @Elena_Strikes brought Raven to life with a great costume that captured the character perfectly.
Rachel Roth was one of three Teen Titans (along with Cyborg and Starfire) to debut in DC Presents #26 (1980) by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. She was a key part of the wildly popular New Teen Titans team, which featured those heroes, plus Kid Flash, Beast Boy, and Robin. The daughter of the demon Trigon, Raven has often been at odds with her inner dark side. The hero has a wide array of powers related to being an empath, including being able to project her soul-self, which sometimes takes the form of a Raven. Most recently, Roth has starred in her own graphic novel series from Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo. Raven has also made her live-action debut as a series regular (played by Teagan Croft) on HBO Max's Titans series.
Cosplayer @elena_strikes shared her Raven costume that she wore at New York Comic Con 2021. With the caption "your goth waifu has entered the chat," @elenastrikes showed her cosplay, which features Raven's iconic hood and outfit. The details are spot on, as it brings her classic look to life with a few updated elements seen in the later comic book runs on the Teen Titans. The outfit features gold spheres on the belt with a bird-shaped buckle. The ensemble also has Raven's purple hair, thigh-high boots, as well as a long cape.
New York Comic Con 2021 might not have drawn the usual crowds (due to enforced Covid-19 protocols), but the cosplays brought to the convention still remained impressive. Besides this Raven cosplay, our favorite look was an epic Beta Ray Bill costume that needs to be seen to be believed. It was wonderful to see cosplayers remain enthusiastic and creative with the con season opening up again.
