Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was very well received by fans upon its release and even ended up being the top-selling game of June even with a PS5 shortage. The game is a vibrant and fun experience taking players to various beautifully rendered planets that look fantastic on the PS5. Cities are bustling with background bystanders and passing ships, dimensional portals constantly open and release things on the planets as players traverse them as Ratchet or Rivet, and the story is a lot of fun. So, where will the sequel take the duo next?

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart's narrative is a fun and chaotic experience, as players zip around through dimensions, phantom dash around enemies, and use the vast arsenal of weapons at their disposal. Ratchet and Clank finally returned to the canon timeline after the events of Into The Nexus – the 2016 reboot is not a prequel for this game, but a retelling of the first game from Qwark’s unreliable perspective.

Rift Apart sees Ratchet & Clank get split apart, only for Clank to be found by Ratchet’s dimensional counterpart, Rivet. It seems fate always draws the two together because Ratchet ends up discovering Clank’s dimensional counterpart, Kit. As the story plays out, players get to see some great interactions between the two parties as they work together to stop the two versions of Nefarious' plan to dominate all dimensions. It’s not until the endgame that Ratchet and Clank reunite, and the alliance between Rivet and Kit leads to Emperor Nefarious’ defeat.

Ratchet & Clank's Rift Apart Sequel: What Dimension Will The Two Duos Explore Next?

At the end of the game, even after all the dimensional chaos they just went through, Ratchet and Clank are ready to gear up yet again to finally go out to seek the lost Lombax race. However, this time the duo won’t be alone since Rivet and Kit will be joining them as well. After hearing Mags' recordings about mapping the dimensions from the Lorbs on Savali in Rivet’s dimension, it begs the question: Were all the Lombax originally from one dimension? In the final entry from Mags, he mentions how the Lombax race were dimensional hoppers and that not all Lombaxes could go with them to the new dimension. Mags says they’re scattered throughout many dimensions still. This implies that the Lombax race began in one dimension, which also means just like Ratchet, Rivet may have been left behind.

This holds more weight when Kaden’s name is brought up in the recordings. Why do recordings on Rivet’s Savali contain Kaden, Ratchet’s supposedly dead father? This could be a big hint at what’s to come in future titles. Many theories suggest that Kaden didn’t die, but that it only seemed like that to Alister Azimuth. Instead, Kaden could've made it out of the crash. This could explain something the Smuggler on Rykan V in Tools of Destruction said about how he got the Gyro-Cycle from a Lombax who was shot down by Emperor Tachyon and looked like Ratchet.

If the theory is true, Ratchet, Clank, Rivet, and Kit may bump into Kaden as they use the dimensional map to find the Lombax world. However, this could stir up trouble as well because the Cragmites were once banished to a dimension of their own. The dimensional rifts in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart could’ve allowed some to break through the cracks back into their original dimension, which could spell another Great War against the Lombaxes if they’re holding a grudge like Emperor Tachyon once did. There are a lot of exciting prospects, but until a sequel gets announced, players can take on Rift Apart's New Game Plus.
