Rivet is a new Lombax in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Since her debut in a trailer for the latest game in the Ratchet & Clank series, she has been a topic of wide discussion. After remaining somewhat of a mystery, PlayStation and Insomniac Games finally revealed her name to be Rivet in a recent gameplay trailer for Rift Apart, before offering an even deeper dive into her capabilities at its recent State of Play showcase.

Rivet is shown to be a more than a competent fighter and will surely prove to be a good ally to fellow Lombax Ratchet and his companion bot Clank when Rift Apart launches this June. Rivet is a member of a resistance group within her own dimension, who opposes Emperor Nefarious. She has a robotic arm, which Insomniac revealed Rivet built herself after she lost her own one rebelling against Nefarious, and she wields a hammer as her weapon of choice. But, while Rivet herself is a brand-new character, there is something about her that may seem incredibly familiar to players.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s leading lady Lombax actually has the same voice as yet another of gaming’s most famous female characters. She may sound familiar to players, as Rivet is in fact voiced by none other than Jennifer Hale, the voice of female Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect series.

Rivet And Commander Shepard: Two Great Leads, One Great Voice

Jennifer Hale Plays Rivet In Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart

While Mass Effect’s Commander Shepard and Ratchet & Clank’s Rivet do not physically resemble each other in any way, except for perhaps their eyes, there are still a lot of striking similarities between these two particular characters of Jennifer Hale’s. Both Rivet and Shepard are empowered female leads, who are confident and assertive within their roles. They can each accept the often harsh consequences of their duties while saving their respective galaxies, as shown by Rivet’s lost arm and Shepard’s ongoing tenaciousness throughout the Mass Effect games.  They both have a proficiency with a variety of weapons and tools and while, hopefully, Rivet will not have to be revived from the dead during Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, these two females are both ready to do whatever it takes to ensure the safety and prosperity of what they believe to be right.

There has been a lot of speculation among fans of the Ratchet & Clank series that Rivet and Ratchet may have a closer bond than the Lombax’s themselves may realize. Many have hypothesized that Rivet and Ratchet are related, while others have even gone as far to guess that Ratchet and Rivet may be one and the same, just in different realities. These ideas may well not be answered before Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart releases this summer, but until then, it is fun to theorize just what else Jennifer Hale’s Rivet may mean for the Lombax and bot duo.
