Insomniac Games shared about seven minutes of new Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gameplay footage, most of which showcases Rivet in action. The development team has teased the lady Lombax on several occasions in recent months; however, a trailer at the end of last month revealed Rivet's name as well as details about her backstory.

Rivet comes from a different dimension, one where her opposition to Emperor Nefarious earns her disfavor. Interestingly, the new character also has a bionic arm, though the reason for such an augmentation presently remains a mystery. Plenty of other bits of information remain hidden about Rivet, too, but specifics should surface throughout the actual adventure, especially since she is a confirmed playable character. Fans won't just be left alone with a different hero, though. Rivet will have Clank along for the ride throughout her dimension-hopping journey. Of course, Ratchet & Clank faithful can additionally look forward to playable sections starring the titular Ratchet.

Today, Game Informer shared seven minutes of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gameplay footage. The tail end of the video includes a few glimpses of Ratchet in action, yet the vast majority of the gameplay revolves around Rivet. She's shown using a wide variety of new weapons, including her hammer. There are even a few on-rails sections, wherein Rivet grinds from rail to rail at high speeds across a level. Yet, these segments aren't as straightforward as they were in past Ratchet & Clank entries. As seen in previous gameplay videos, wall-riding sequences and long jumps help break up the on-rails action, too.

Notably, the above video offers a closer look at the new mobility options packed in Rift Apart, which include the dash mechanic, wall-running, and Rift Tether that allows the characters to jump into dimensional tears. As the title's summer release continues to draw near, Insomniac Games is bound to unveil even more gameplay. For now, though, fans have plenty of footage to devour.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart serves as the PlayStation 5's third major exclusive. Of course, Demon's Souls represented the first, having arrived alongside the console's November 2020 launch. The recently released Returnal constituted the second PS5 exclusive, giving owners of the platform access to a demanding rogue-lite from the Finnish studio behind Resogun.
