The upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart now has a loose release window, as it was revealed during Gamescom 2020 that the game will be released during the launch window of the PS5Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was first shown during the PS5 reveal event back in June, where it demonstrated some impressive scenes that showed off the system's hardware.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a third-person action game that uses a dimension-hopping/time travel storyline. The initial gameplay trailer showed the heroes instantly travelling between drastically different times and locations with no loading whatsoever. This demonstrates the capabilities of the PS5 and its hardware, as Sony has bragged about how loading will be a thing of the past, thanks to the SSD inside the system.

There was no release date given when Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was first revealed, but we now have an idea when to expect the game. A gameplay trailer for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was shown at the Opening Night event during Gamescom 2020, which was an extended version of the trailer shown at the PS5 reveal. Geoff Keighley spoke to Marcus Smith and Mike Daly from Insomniac Games after the trailer, and they revealed that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be released during the PS5's launch window – though they didn't elaborate as to how big that window could be.

The PS5 is due to be released during the 2020 holiday season, with most believing that it will launch sometime in November. The fact that it's releasing so late in the year means that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart likely won't be released until early 2021 at the absolute earliest. The developers must be confident that the game will be ready within the next year, as there have been a number of high-profile delays in the gaming industry due to COVID, and no one would fault them for pushing Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart back if development had stalled for several months.

The PS5's launch line-up currently has one killer app, in the form of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and this is assuming that Sony doesn't have more titles hidden up its sleeve. The addition of a Ratchet & Clank game to the launch line-up would have been a big deal, especially one as polished as Rift Apart, but it seems that fans won't be waiting too long to enjoy the game.
