Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is looking to massively upgrade planetary exploration. Unlike previous games, worlds are said to be much grander and more alive due to the new technology on the PS5. Being able to free roam will provide both newcomers and returning fans of the franchise with the ability to use the new and improved Hoverboots, Swingshot, and Rift Tether to fully traverse these new open areas. Some of these worlds may seem familiar to returning players, as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will feature planets from prior games, along with alternate dimensional counterparts.

There have been various planets shown so far, such as Urfdah Mesa, Corson V: Nefarious City, and Blizar Prime: Blizar Mines. Going off previous titles, it’s safe to assume that there might be more than just the 7 worlds that have been teased in gameplay, as each previous game had 10 or more worlds. However, those games didn’t have the scope of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. While there are various new worlds to explore, fans may be wondering which planets are returning.

Sargasso is one swampy world that players of Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction may recognize. It’s the very planet on which Ratchet and Clank discover The Dimensionator itself, the weapon Dr. Nefarious has now gotten his hands on in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart that is causing so much chaos. Sargasso is also the home base for Rivet, the new female Lombax. This planet will be where Rivet and Clank begin their adventure across the reimagined worlds.

Those who played Tools of Destruction may also recognize Ardolis, the home of the pirate base. As one of the last few Lombaxes in existence, Ratchet sets out on a quest to find an ancient artifact the swashbuckling pirates had looted long ago, a map to planets of Lombax colonies. Not much has been shown of this planet yet, so players will have to wait and see just what got upgraded.

Torren IV is the last confirmed planet from another game which comes from  A Crack in Time, a fan-favorite game in the Ratchet & Clank series. Torren IV may be a more memorable planet to some fans seeing as this is the planet on which the Hoverboots made their first debut. It’s here that Ratchet meets an old friend of his father, Alister Azimuth, who gifts him his first pair.

In Insomniac’s extended gameplay trailer, it shows Ratchet and Clank in a city called Megalopolis, which some may confuse for Megapolis from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. However, Megalopolis is just a brighter, nicer, alternate version of Nefarious City. Nevertheless, there are a plethora of other planets to explore, pocket dimensions to discover, and collectibles to seek out. With more news about Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in the future, Insomniac may reveal just how much they’ve been hiding.
