One of the games releasing during the launch-window of the PS5 is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Developer Insomniac Games has shown off footage and tidbits of details over the last few months, but there's one mystery that still remains. In the reveal trailer for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart that released in June, a female lombax was shown. Ever since, fans have been wondering who she is, and how she relates to the plot of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Lombaxes are humanoids with feline-like features, and Ratchet is a member of the species as well. Through events in previous games, most of the lombaxes have been banished from the universe, meaning that players have only seen two other lombaxes other than Ratchet. Now, however, a new female lombax has appeared in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and fans are developing their own theories about her.

Some details for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, like the female lombax's name, still remain unclear. Thanks to recent gameplay footage shown off during opening night of Gamescom 2020, fans learned a bit more about the story though. It appears that thanks to villain Dr. Nefarious and a device called the Dimensionator, Ratchet and his robot buddy Clank are traversing through dimensions and trying to restore the damage to space and time. Because of these dimensional rifts, a female lombax appears in the game, presumably from another dimension — perhaps one where lombaxes aren't nearly extinct in the universe.

Is The Female Lombax Really A Version Of Ratchet In Rift Apart?

The female lombax is also a playable character, which means fans should be seeing a lot of her in the game. The game's title, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, could also be a clue. The title could just be referencing the fact that Dr. Nefarious creates rifts in the dimensions, but it could also hint that the gameplay may be divided up evenly between Ratchet and the female lombax. Fans may be playing as the female lombax in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for half the game, or even more.

One of the biggest fan theories out there is that the female lombax in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is actually a version of Ratchet from another dimension. It's certainly plausible, and it would explain why people from Insomniac Games are keeping her name a secret. If it's true, then it's going to be one of the biggest reveals in the game, so fans probably won't even learn her true name until Rift Apart releases during the launch-window for PS5.

Having the female lombax be a version of Ratchet from another dimensions is an intriguing concept. The mystery surrounding her true identity is only made more mysterious by the fact that Insomniac won't share her name despite her being a playable character. Fans may have to wait until Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart releases later this year to find out the female lombax's true identity.
