The newly released Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has captivated its audience- bringing high review scores right off the bat. This isn’t too surprising when looking back at the success of prior titles in the series, as well as Insomniac’s recent track record with the recently released Spider-Man games. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart brings players into a vibrant, wacky, and chaos-filled world as they traverse through dimensions in the latest title in the series. With all the pocket dimensions, worlds, and side-quests to explore, some players may be wondering how long the game takes to beat.

Those only in it to play the story may end up finding the adventure short-lived, but the action set pieces, well-written characters, and gameplay all deliver a solid experience that is emotionally compelling and entertaining to play. Even side characters are teeming with personalities that will pull players and long-time fans into the story and keep them invested. For fans of the series, they may miss some returning characters or brand new ones while rushing through the story, so it's recommended to do some of the side activities at the very least.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart takes roughly 13 hours to beat according to early reports at HowLongToBeat for those who only want to experience the compelling and well-crafted story featuring the franchise’s new Lombax, Rivet. A report also suggests it will take 10-12 hours depending on how quickly players rush the story and ignore side quests from Sammy Barker over at PushSquare. However, for those who love to scratch the 100% completion trophy itch, the game will take a bit longer to finish. There are numerous side-quests, pocket dimensions, and mini-games in which players will discover extras such as gold bolts that unlock extras, armors that come with bonus stats, and Raritanium to upgrade Ratchet & Rivet’s massive arsenal.

For those going for the 100% completion trophy, or those who simply want to explore more of the brilliantly crafted worlds for all they have, a plethora of rewards lie in wait to help them as they venture out into the dozens of worlds and their alternate dimensional counterparts. While some are still out exploring, reports at HowLongToBeat suggest the game will take 15.5 hours or more to complete everything there is. PushSquare also laid out similar expectations of around 15 hours to beat 100% of the game. Exploring the game world will significantly increase the variety of gunplay because the more Raritanium gathered results in better perks becoming available within gun skill trees. The upgrades for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart's vast number of weapons can change how each handles as players get to later levels, and it makes combat even more satisfying and dynamic. Armor bonuses can also grant perks like extra Raritanium, increased melee damage, and more bolts, all of which can greatly help those who intend to seek them out.

When players finish up Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart story, challenge mode becomes unlocked. Challenge Mode is essentially New Game+ where all weapons and armor can be transferred for a second playthrough, but the difficulty is also increased to counter the upgraded weapons that carry over. Challenge Mode includes bonus weapons as well, which allows for fans of the game to upgrade their arsenal to the maximum, and perhaps explore areas that they hadn’t noticed.

For fans of Insomniac Games, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is roughly the same length as Marvel's Spider-Man PS4 and Ratchet & Clank 2016, for those who take the time to explore. Rift Apart may not be the longest experience, with many story games these days being 20 hours or more without doing the side content, but it certainly delivers in those 10-20 hours. The content, gameplay, and story are high quality, which makes for an emotional and fun experience that will likely reassure many their purchase was well worth it.
