The new Ratchet and Clank game, Rift Apart, releases later this week on the PS5, so in celebration, the developer Insomniac Games has released a teaser trailer showcasing a new gun which pulls items from other big-name Playstation titles. This crossover includes the upcoming title Horizon Forbidden West, with an entire Thunderjaw dropping out of the sky. Fans online are already calling this one of the most ambitious crossovers in gaming to date.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is the next game in Insomniac’s adventure series. The franchise revolves around a Lombrax named Ratchet and his robot companion Clank taking on alien creatures and beating the big bad threatening the universe in each game. In order to do this, Ratchet needs a powerful arsenal of weapons, which are unique to each game and purchased over the course of the adventure. The most powerful of all the guns Ratchet has access to is the RYNO, which can be purchased for an enormous amount of bolts or from collecting hidden items in the game. In each game, the RYNO has received a different powerup; this time around it seems the powerup is matching the dimensional travel theme of Rift Apart.

In the latest installment in the Ratchet and Clank series, it seems that the RYNO 8 has gotten some major upgrades, enabling players to drop objects from other dimensions into the game and onto unsuspecting enemies. Fans of the series would recognize the RYNO posted in the teaser by Insomniac Games on Twitter earlier today. The RYNO 8 comes from the devious mind of Dr Nefarious, the ruler of Nefarious City and one of Ratchet’s nemeses. The weapon now appears to hold the power of ripping open dimensions to other game’s universes, weaponizing objects from other games for use against enemies.

It seems that various PlayStation game universes have been programmed into the RYNO 8, including Sunset Overdrive, Sly Cooper, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Horizon Forbidden West. Numerous Twitter posts have appeared showing various PlayStation and Insomniac properties being sucked through interdimensional portals. This included the giant balloon Fizzle head, the corporate mascot of Fizzco, from Sunset Overdrive. The Jeep from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was also shown bursting through a portal into the Ratchet and Clank universe.

While the implication of such items making their way into Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is still unknown, most likely this feature is intended as a light-hearted joke. It’s unknown if the RYNO 8 will be able to pull from other PlayStation titles not yet previewed; fans will just have to wait and see when the game releases later this week on PS5.
