Couples in comic books rarely last, and those who do end up as iconic pairings. However, weddings in comics are often exciting for more than one reason. Yes, these are two comic book characters getting married and signifying their union, but at the same time, these are also superheroes. That means the wedding will not always go right.

Most weddings in comics often include interference, bad guys coming in and messing things up, or even worse, other heroes making things harder than they needed to be. However, through the years, Marvel Comics have pulled off some great weddings in the pages of the comics, and some have a lasting effect on everyone involved.

Gambit and Rogue

One of the more interesting relationships between two Marvel characters is the one between Gambit and Rogue. On one level, they seem perfect for each other. However, because they are so much alike and are both combustible, it has never worked out right between them. However, they did get married. In X-Men: Gold #30 by Marc Guggenheim and David Marquez, the wedding was supposed to be Colossus and Kitty Pryde, but she left him at the altar. With everyone there, it all changed on the fly when Gambit proposed to Rogue, and they got married there instead.

Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor

When Jean Grey died, it broke Cyclops completely. He lost the woman he loved and had no idea what he would do with his life. A trip to Alaska with his brother Alex for a family reunion changed all that, and that is when Scott met a woman named Madelyne Pryor that looked like Jean. The two fell in love and got married in Uncanny X-Men #175 by Chris Claremont, Paul Smith, and Madelyne Pryor. Sadly, she turned out to be a clone, and Scott left her and their newborn baby when Jean returned.

Cyclops and Jean Grey

Years later, Cyclops finally married the love of his life. When Jean Grey came back to life, the two reteamed, and their life had many ups and downs before they finally decided to tie the knot, something many fans had been waiting on for years. Jean proposed to Scott, and the two finally got married in X-Men Vol. 2 #30 by Fabian Nicieza and Andy Kubert. This led to the storyline where Scott and Jean went into the future and had a chance to raise Cable as Slym and Redd Dayspring.

Yellow Jacket and Wasp

One relationship that was doomed was the one between Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. The two made their debut together as Ant-Man and the Wasp, and they were original members of the Avengers. Pym started to lose his mind, and he took on the role of Yellow Jacket to try to work things out. It was as Yellow Jacket that he proposed to Jan, and she said yes to try to protect him.

The wedding happened in Avengers #60 by Roy Thomas and John Buscema, although no one knew he was Hank Pym but Janet. Of course, a marriage built on lies never lasts, and Pym's mental deterioration continued until they finally divorced.

Scarlet Witch and Vision

Vision and Scarlet Witch's wedding.

One of the strangest weddings in Marvel Comics came in Giant-Size Avengers #4 by Steve Englehart and Don Heck. In this issue, there was a double-wedding, with one couple being the synthezoid Vision and the Scarlet Witch. The other couple that married at the same ceremony was Mantis and the Cotati that took telepathic control of Swordsman's body. Vision and Scarlet Witch remained married until he was disassembled and had his mind wiped, returning as a shell of his former self.

Hulkling and Wiccan

While it wasn't the first same-sex marriage in Marvel Comics history, Hulkling and Wiccan's wedding was still very special. This took place after the two young men began dating in the pages of Young Avengers and became a perfectly matched couple along the way. The wedding took place right before Hulkling accepted his role as the Skrull and Kree alliance figurehead. This was in Empyre #5 by Al Ewing and Valerio Schiti, and it was just in time for Wiccan to marry into royalty.

Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson

Some weddings in Marvel Comics are the result of long-term planning and anticipation by fans. One of the first people that Aunt May tried to set up Peter Parker to date was Mary Jane Watson, but he didn't hook up then and dated other women along the way. However, Spider-Man and MJ were destined to be together.

The wedding happened in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21 by David Michelinie, Jim Shooter, and Paul Ryan. It was the perfect marriage, but thanks to Spider-Man making a deal with Mephisto, it ended to save Aunt May's life.

Reed Richards and Susan Storm

It is hard to remember when Reed Richards and Susan Storm were not married. They have struggled to hold their marriage together and have separated more than once, but they always end up back together. Plus, they have a family with two children, and the Fantastic Four has always prided itself on being a family more than a superteam. However, their wedding did not happen until Fantastic Four Annual #3 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Northstar and Kyle Jinadu

The Marvel wedding that changed everything was when Northstar married the love of his life, Kyle Jinadu. Not only was this a same-sex marriage, but it was with a superhero and a non-powered civilian. The marriage happened in Astonishing X-Men #51 by Marjorie Liu and Mike Perkins. This could have been like other Marvel weddings, with bad guys interrupting things before the couple gets married. However, this issue was respectful and just showed the couple on their wedding day, finishing with a perfect wedding.

Black Panther and Storm

One of the most iconic weddings in Marvel Comics was when King T'Challa of Wakanda married his beloved, Ororo Munroe, the X-Men member known as Storm. The wedding happened in Black Panther #18. This seemed like the perfect couple, and it took a world-altering event to finally break them up as Storm took the side of the mutants in Avengers Vs. X-Men, which saw Namor destroy Wakanda. The wedding was perfect, and the two still share a love for each other, even after T'Challa annulled their marriage.
